TL;DR: In this article, the authors construct a spatiotemporal frame for the study of spatial economic and ecological patterns generated by transboundary pollution, where space is continuous and polluting emissions originate in the intensity of use of the production input.

TL;DR: Through a statistical analysis of the mental symptoms recorded in clinical files stored in the database of the International Free University of Homeopathic Medicine, it is determined that sycosis and psora are the predominant miasms in patients with autoimmune disease.

TL;DR: The authors analyzed O'Brien's use of proper nouns and the several solutions adopted by translators of his novels and short stories, suggesting some possible alternatives and highlighting the semantic potential of the examined proper names which is inevitably lost.
Abstract: In fictional texts, personal names (and more generally proper nouns) are considered to be meaningful linguistic and cultural items since they often convey specific connotations to a literary text, and they constitute a challenge for translators since they are usually used to define the character itself, often from an ironic perspective. Translators can adopt different strategies (copy; naturalization; transcription; addition; phonological replacement; re-creation; cultural transplantation) but, as it often happens in translation, a significant part of specific connotations of the name is usually lost. Flann O’Brien resorts to a “creative” use of proper names, often comments them (De Selby, one of his characters, claims “to be in a position to state the physiological ‘group’ of any person merely from a brief study of the letters of his name”). This study analyses O’Brien’s use of proper nouns and the several solutions adopted by translators of his novels and short stories, suggesting some possible alternatives and highlighting the semantic potential of the examined proper names which is inevitably lost.

13 Sep 2006TL;DR: In this paper, an aortal pressure controlling device consisting of a variable volume member, a gas reservoir, and a control unit was used to control the aorta's pressure measurer.
Abstract: An aortal pressure controlling device (1) comprising a variable volume member (2) by blowing gas inside of it and adapted to be inserted within the aorta, a gas reservoir (3) connected by means of a cannula (4) to the variable volume member (2), blowing means (5) for the gas from the gas reservoir (3) to the variable volume member (2), an aortal pressure measurer (6) and a control unit (7) connected both to the pressure measurer (6) and to the blowing means (5). The control unit (7) receives information from the measurer (6) and consequently controls said blowing means (5).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider normal-form games with n players and two strategies for each player, where the payoffs are i.i.d. random variables with some distribution $F$ and consider issues related to the pure equilibria in the game as the number of players diverges.
Abstract: We consider normal-form games with $n$ players and two strategies for each player, where the payoffs are i.i.d. random variables with some distribution $F$ and we consider issues related to the pure equilibria in the game as the number of players diverges. It is well-known that, if the distribution $F$ has no atoms, the random number of pure equilibria is asymptotically Poisson$(1)$. In the presence of atoms, it diverges. For each strategy profile, we consider the (random) average payoff of the players, called Average Social Utility (ASU). In particular, we examine the asymptotic behavior of the optimum ASU and the one associated to the best and worst pure Nash equilibria and we show that, although these quantities are random, they converge, as $n\to\infty$ to some deterministic quantities.
