TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted static batch experiments in the pH range between 10.5 and 12.5, and found that between 75 and 96 % of UVI was removed from aqueous alkaline solutions through particle formation and on subsequent transport through porous media.

TL;DR: Using data mining techniques such as classification, clustering and decision tree algorithms, this work hopes to be able to predict when you are most likely to encounter delays and increase the knowledge for consumers advising them on the best and most efficient ways to travel.
Abstract: On an average day in the United States, thousands of commercial flights make their way through more than 5,000,000 square miles of U.S airspace. People rely on these flights for business and pleasure needs. Flying can be a very frustrating experience. Data mining past flight data can help consumers make informed decisions about many aspects of flying such as when the best days to fly are and out of which airports? We also wish to find how time is made up for in the air during late flights and how airport size relates to efficiency? Using data mining techniques such as classification, clustering and decision tree algorithms, we hope to be able to predict when you are most likely to encounter delays and increase the knowledge for consumers advising them on the best and most efficient ways to travel.

TL;DR: The fundamental psychometric properties of the subscales found in the Static-2002R, an actuarial measure of sexual recidivism risk, were evaluated and supported and further support the static- 2002R as a valid sex offender risk appraisal instrument that encompasses multiple distinct, clinically relevant, risk domains.
Abstract: The fundamental psychometric properties of the subscales found in the Static-2002R, an actuarial measure of sexual recidivism risk, were evaluated in the current study. Namely, the reliability, concurrent and construct validity, and factor structure of the Static-2002R subscales were examined with a sample of 372 adult male sex offenders. In addition to using validated measures of sexual violence risk to examine concurrent validity, construct-related measures taken from extant risk measures and psychometric tests were correlated with three of the subscales to assess overall construct validity. Moderate support was found for the reliability of the Static-2002R. The concurrent and construct validity of the General Criminality, Persistence of Sexual Offending, and Deviant Sexual Interest subscales were supported. Generally, these findings further support the Static-2002R as a valid sex offender risk appraisal instrument that encompasses multiple distinct, clinically relevant, risk domains.

TL;DR: In contrast to the rural based villages, cities began to house much larger numbers of residents, who not only were unfamiliar with each other but also were mainly concerned with their own well-being.
Abstract: For hundreds upon hundreds of years, humans lived in small settlements where most individuals, if not all, were linked by kinship ties. Many of these villages were occupied for generations and thus their occupants had a strong connection to the place. The villages were politically and economically autonomous, yet they were connected with adjacent villages by means of barter and intermarriage. Within a relatively short period of time, centuries-long occupied small villages were left vacant and replaced by fewer but much larger settlements identified as cities. In contrast to the rural based villages, cities began to house much larger numbers of residents, who not only were unfamiliar with each other but also were mainly concerned with their own well-being. Recent archaeological research carried out in the immediate periphery of Huari provides crucial information that indicates that the growth of Huari paralleled the abandonment of rural villages apparently in the midst of increasing conflict. The rural settlement of Huaqanmarka was occupied for several centuries, yet it was abandoned within a short period of time simultaneously with the desertion of other adjacent settlements.

TL;DR: By incorporating examples from the world of heavy metal, educators can discuss scientific thinking in a way that is engaging and memorable for students.
Abstract: While heavy metal music may not be something typically covered in an introductory psychology textbook, there are many useful resources from this area of popular culture that can help promote scientific thinking in the classroom. From hidden messages in Judas Priest's music to Slayer being accused of inciting murder, heavy metal music has a long history of unique instances that are directly related to psychology. By incorporating examples from the world of heavy metal, educators can discuss scientific thinking in a way that is engaging and memorable for students.
