Abstract: Nanofibers of polylactide (PLA)/poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) blends, loaded with TiO2 nanoparticles, have been prepared by an electrospinning method. The electrospun fiber mats were characterized by ATR-FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, EDX, and UV-visible spectroscopy to examine structures, functional groups, crystallinity, surface morphology, and UV absorptivity. It is clearly observed that TiO2 particles are embedded on the filaments. All PLA-based spun fibers are completely amorphous in nature. The surface morphology of those blended with PVP is smoother and more uniform than the corresponding samples without PVP. Neat PLA fibers show a UV absorption band at around 200 nm, whereas the fibers loaded with TiO2 nanoparticles show an additional absorption band covering the 200–380-nm region. Photo-degradation of the fiber samples are conducted in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) under UVA light. The results indicate that the PVP component dissolves into the PBS solution, and the PLA matrix degrades as a function of time. The fibers are then applied as a catalytic system for epoxidation of unsaturated sunflower oil (SFO), for use as additives or plasticizers for biopolymers, employing a performic acid oxidizing agent. The fibers, especially those containing PVP, can effectively enhance the epoxidation yield of oils with a slow rate of undesirable side reactions, which break ester bonds of triglycerides to generate free fatty acids.

Abstract: Most blindness is preventable and many people are unnecessarily blind. Tele-ophthalmology offers great hope to overcome this tragedy. Slit-lamp examination requires specialized skills and, therefore, needs active tele-ophthalmologic solutions to fully actualize its potential. In order to address this challenge, we have developed and tested a robotic slit-lamp system. This paper reports technical details of the system and preliminary data from a clinical trial testing this device and discusses strategies to improve the technology for a successful implementation.

Abstract: The purpose of this research paper is how to control the mecanum wheel robotic car to approach the target via wireless by using the computer vision. The mecanum wheel robotic car includes four mecanum wheels and the main microcontroller. This robotic car is controlled by the vision-based control system using the openCV through the wireless communication. The openCV is used for the pattern recognition which is a method of image processing. The openCV detects the robotic car and the target pattern to compare the location. After comparing the locations, the data is sent to the robotic car to go or stop. To send data from the openCV to the robotic car, Pyserial method is used before transmitting that data wirelessly. In such way, the location of the robotic car is detected continuously, and the data is sent to the robotic car to approach the target pattern.

Abstract: Cell sheet technology is applied to human articular chondrocytes to construct a tissue-like structure as an alternative treatment for cartilage defect. The effect of a gelatin manipulator, as a cell sheet transfer system, on the quality of the chondrocyte sheets was investigated. The changes of important chondrogenic markers and stress fibers, resulting from the cell sheet manipulation, were also studied. The chondrocyte cell sheets were constructed with patient-derived chondrocytes using a temperature-responsive polymer and a gelatin manipulator as a transfer carrier. The properties of the cell sheets, including sizes, expression levels of collagen type II and I, and the localization of the stress fibers, were assessed and compared with those of the cell sheets harvested without the gelatin manipulator.
