Abstract: Liquid chemical dosimeters are very useful in radiation chemistry, radiation biology, and radiology for the measurement of energy absorbed from ionizing radiation. The liquid can be made to fil l any shape, giving a measure of the average absorbed energy in the volume. A comprehensive review of a number of systems of chemical dosimetry by Fricke and Hart' has appeared recently; statements of fact without reference in this article will often find a fuller discussion in this reference. In the discussion here the salient features of the ceric sulfate and the chlorinated hydrocarbon systems will be reviewed briefly and the ferrous sulfate, or Fricke, system will be considered in detail. The practical aspects related to the measurement of high-energy photons and electrons will be emphasized.

TL;DR: Both the distribution and the amount of polyanionic substance associated with these physiologically important membrane systems support the idea that the reactive material serves as an anionic substrate for binding cationic calcium.
Abstract: The sarcolemma and T system and the sarcoplasmic reticulum were studied in a fast acting muscle, the extraocular muscle of Fundulus grandis The predominant morphological fiber type contained abundant glycogen, a highly developed T system with triads at the A-I junction and a well developed sarcoplasmic reticulum The numerous tubular profiles of T system and sarcoplasmic reticulum with their characteristic contents made this fiber especially suitable for cytochemical investigation

TL;DR: The experimental thermograms indicate that high spatial resolution simplifies the recognition and classification of thermal patterns while decreasing the number of false‐positive examinations.
Abstract: Two design trends have become evident in the development of clinical thermo‐graphic equipment—higher frame rates which meet the requirements for real‐time presentation and novel color and isotherm techniques designed to increase the differential temperature capabilities of display systems. These developments, for the most part, have been accomplished at the expense of spatial resolution. Little has been reported on the characteristics of high spatial resolution thermography. With the rapid developments in detector technology, it has now become possible to retain the desired degree of temperature resolution at clinically acceptable frame rates while increasing spatial resolution. Such a system is presently being tested at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute and its performance compared with commercially developed thermographic units. The criteria for comparison are the diagnostic value of the thermograms and image quality as determined by the modulation transfer function. At the present time, the experimental thermograms indicate that high spatial resolution simplifies the recognition and classification of thermal patterns while decreasing the number of false‐positive examinations. Information may also be derived concerning the heat transfer processes involved. The experimental scanner is not suited for routine clinical use and theoretical calculations concerning the development of an optimal clinical scanning device are presented.

TL;DR: There seems to be no basis for considering that a prolactin-luteal-progestin axis is concerned in gestation in any of the preceding forms, and it is possible that a role of Prolactin and progestin in viviparity evolved in this group.

TL;DR: The use of radioactive phosphorus (32P) in combination with a miniature Geiger counter passed through the esophagoscope was evaluated and was especially useful in 6 cases of primary esophageal carcinoma without gross mucosal involvement and in delineating extent of esophages involvement in gastric cancer.
Abstract: The use of radioactive phosphorus (32P) in combination with a miniature Geiger counter passed through the esophagoscope was evaluated in 204 tests on 198 patients during a 10-year period. In 66 patients with primary cancer of the esophagus the method was 96% accurate, and in 28 patients with gastric cancer invading from below it was 93% accurate. There were 4 falsely positive results in 27 patients with esophagitis (85% accurate), 1 in 9 cases of cardiospasm or achalasia, and 2 in 68 control cases (97% accurate). The test was especially useful in 6 cases of primary esophageal carcinoma without gross mucosal involvement and in delineating extent of esophageal involvement in gastric cancer. It is not a survey method, but may be decisive in the occasional symptomatic patient without definite roentgenographic or esophagoscopic evidence of cancer.

TL;DR: In this paper, the occurrence of hypertrophic gastritis in an 87-year-old woman was reported, which was characterized by giant rugal folds and a thickened mucosa, with replacement of the secretory elements by mucus-secreting columnar cells, and a hyperplastic proliferation of this epithelium.
Abstract: The occurrence of hypertrophic gastritis in an 87-year-old woman is reported. Weakness, weight loss and epigastric fullness on examination, achlorhydria and a normal serum protein were the clinical findings. Radiologically, an infiltrating gastric neoplasm was suspected, and a subtotal gastrectomy was performed. The stomach was characterized by giant rugal folds and a thickened mucosa, with replacement of the secretory elements by mucus-secreting columnar cells, and a hyperplastic proliferation of this epithelium. This case represents a hypo-secretory variant among the various forms of hypertrophic gastropathy described.
