TL;DR: In this paper, the decay τ−→τ−τ+τ−vτ using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II storage ring has been studied and the dominant mode for this decay is observed to beρ0π− in aJp=1+ spin state.
Abstract: We report a study of the decay τ−→τ−τ+τ−vτ using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II storage ring. Tau pairs were produced bye+e− annihilation at centre-of-mass energies near 10 GeV. We have observed about 1,700 events, corresponding to a branching ratio for τ−→τ−τ+τ−vτ of (5.6±0.7)%. The dominant mode for this decay is observed to beρ0π− in aJp=1+ spin state. Theρ0π− mass spectrum shows a broad enhancement near 1.10 GeV/c2, which has the properties expected for theA1.

TL;DR: In this article, a first order action principle in a higher dimensional space M N in which we embed spacetime was formulated, where the action I is essentially an area of a four-dimensional spacetime V 4 weighted with a matter density ω in M N. For a suitably chosen ω, we obtain on V 4 a set of worldlines.

TL;DR: La transition pseudo verre de spin dans Rb 1−x (ND 4 ) x D 2 PO 4 est caracterisee par une condensation graduelle d'amas polarises de maniere aleatoire.
Abstract: NMR data show that the deuteron "pseudo spin-glass" transition in ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{(\mathrm{N}{\mathrm{D}}_{4})}_{x}{\mathrm{D}}_{2}\mathrm{P}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ is not just a simple kinetic slowing down process but is characterized by a gradual condensation of randomly polarized clusters as expected if we deal with a percolation transition in eigenstate space. The results provide novel information on the temperature dependence and distribution of local random fields and their dynamics. The spin-lattice and motional-narrowing data further suggest that the "pseudospin" O---D--O deuteron intrabond motion determines the freezing dynamics.

TL;DR: The results support the hypothesis that unbalanced protease activity damages the periodontal tissue.
Abstract: The concentration of total, free and bound (complexed forms) of alpha 2-macroglobulin was measured by crossimmunoelectrophoresis in patients with different degrees of periodontal disease as indicated by the gingival index (GI) and the proportion of alveolar bone loss (ABL). The concentration of total alpha 2-M (bound and free forms) is lower in gingival fluid taken from sites with more inflamed gingivae. Its concentration decreases with an increase in the pocket depth and the alveolar bone loss at the sites of fluid collection. The concentration of alpha 2-M bound form, i.e., the presence of alpha 2-M: protease complexes, in gingival fluid is low or absent at the sites with more pronounced bone loss (above 15%). Our results support the hypothesis that unbalanced protease activity damages the periodontal tissue. Not only the proteolytic but also inhibitory activities are altered and correspond to the severity of the disease.

TL;DR: Aspergillus spp.
Abstract: The suitability of three ascomycetous fungi, Aspergillus niger, A. awamori and Trichoderma reesei, as well as two basidiomycetes, Pleurotus ostreatus and Phanerochaete chrysosporium, for bioconversion of apple distillery slop was compared. Trichoderma and Phanerochaete degraded raw fiberes by 20%, producing filter cakes with 17% to 22% raw protein contents. Aspergillus spp. were superior in filtration time and COD reduction and were of the same efficiency in protein synthesis as Trichoderma and Phanerochaete, but did not degrade fibres. Pleurotus ostreatus did not degrade lignin under fermentation conditions used and could not compete with other fungi due to its slower growth.

TL;DR: In this article, the covariant canonical formalisms for minimal surfaces are developed for relativistic string or membrane embeddings, which avoid the difficulties of the Dixac constraint formalism by modifying the very important approach by Bund.
Abstract: We pursue the renewed interest in string or embedding model for general relativity. Our theory is free of the objections raised by Deseret al., because it takes the embedding space seriously as the arena for physics. We consider a classical space-timeV4 as a minimal surface in a curved embedding spaceVN. Matter onV4 comes from the curvature ofVn. Two versions of the covariant canonical formalisms for minimal surfaces are then developed. They avoid the difficulties of the Dixac constraint formalism; this is achieved by properly modifying the very important approach by Bund. Our canonical formalisms can be used also for relativistic strings or membranes.

TL;DR: Steroid 11 β‐hydroxylase activity and 20β‐hydroxy‐steroid dehydrogenase activity were found in the cell‐free crude extract of Cochliobolus lunatus and 11β‐Hydroxylation was clearly inhibited by CO.
Abstract: Steroid 11β-hydroxylase activity and 20β-hydroxy-steroid dehydrogenase activity were found in the cell-free crude extract of Cochliobolus lunatus. It was possible to separate these two enzymatic activities by centrifugation at 100,000 X g. The 20β-hydroxy-steroid dehydrogenase activity remained in the supernatant while the 11β-hydroxylase activity was present in the sediment. 11β-hydroxylation was clearly inhibited by CO.

TL;DR: In this paper, the hot water extract of Picea abies bark (Stiasny number 52.2) was studied for heterogeneity by chromatography with an Amberlite XAD-8 gel.
Abstract: The hot water extract of Picea abies bark (Stiasny number 52.2), used as wood adhesive, was studied for heterogeneity by chromatography with an Amberlite XAD-8 gel. The Stiasny numbers of the tannin fractions were found to be repeatedly over 80 and those of the water fractions less than 15. However, the tannin/carbohydrate resolution was not as good for the ethanol fraction obtained by a Soxhlet extraction of spruce bark hot water extract. This is probably due to the glycosidic nature of this fraction.

TL;DR: It was proved that the resistance to passive movements is highly dependent on the muscle length at which it is tested, and it is suggested that the value of resistance together with the Muscle length should be documented.
Abstract: Patterns of stretch reflex activities provoked by sinusoidal oscillations at the ankle joint were studied in hemiplegic patients. Three different patterns regarding tonic and phasic reflex activity were found to be typical for these patients. Rather than length-dependent inhibition, known from paraplegic and multiple sclerosis patients, a neutral effect or facilitation of stretch reflex was observed. The resistance to these movements was also studied at different muscle lengths. It was proved that the resistance to passive movements is highly dependent on the muscle length at which it is tested. It is therefore suggested that the value of resistance together with the muscle length should be documented.

TL;DR: The construction of minimal ordered triangulations has been studied in this paper, where the minimal number of vertices of a bipartite graph, which has a quadrilateral embedding into S, is shown to be b(S) = 4 + (16 + 8 χ)1/2⌉, where χ is the Euler characteristic of S.
Abstract: A finite simplicial complex is orderable if its simplices are the chains of a poset. For each closed surface an orderable triangulation is given that is minimal with respect to the number of vertices. The construction of minimal ordered triangulations implies that for each surface S the minimal number of vertices of a bipartite graph, which has a quadrilateral embedding into S, is equal to b(S) = ⌈4 + (16 – 8χ)1/2⌉, where χ is the Euler characteristic of S.

TL;DR: Protein contents were determined in submerged as well as in surface-grown citric acid producing Aspergillus niger mycelia using various methods (Kjeldahl, Biuret, Lowry and Coomassie Blue).
Abstract: Protein contents were determined in submerged as well as in surface-grown citric acid producingAspergillus niger mycelia. Various methods (Kjeldahl, Biuret, Lowry and Coomassie Blue) for protein determination were compared. The Biuret method seemed to be more suitable than the others for true protein determination in mycelia. The Lowry method gave lower results in all cases. The Coomassie Blue method did not prove suitable for the material used.

TL;DR: In this paper, the second law enthalpies ΔHsub °, 298K(HoI3) = 282 ± 12 kJ mol−1 and ΔHf, ΔHr, °298K(HI3(g) → Ho2I6(g)) = −203 ± 12kJmol−1 are calculated from the experimental data.
Abstract: High temperature mass spectrometry has been used to study the vaporization properties of HoI3. Mass spectra of vapours indicate that HoI3 evaporates as HoI3(g) and Ho2I6(g) at temperatures around 1000 K. Ion current versus temperature data yield thermochemical values for positive ions and neutral molecules. The second law enthalpies ΔHsub °, 298K(HoI3) = 282 ± 12 kJ mol−1, ΔHsub, °298K(Ho2I6) = 352 ± 16 kJ mol−1, ΔHat°(HoI3) = 962 kJ mol−1, Δat°(Ho2I6) = 1962 kJ mol−1, ΔHf °298K(HoI3(g)) = −267 ± 18 kJ mol−1, ΔHf, °298K(Ho2I6(g)) = −738 ± 18 kJ mol−1 and ΔHr, °298K (2HoI3(g) → Ho2I6(g)) = −203 ± 12 kJ mol−1 are calculated from the experimental data. Estimated molecular parameters are used for the calculations of the thermodynamic functions by the third law method.

Abstract: In this work the use of the reagents 4-NDP and Na-DDTC in the radiochemical separation of Cd, Co, Cu, Se and Zn from a single aliquot of sample shortly after the end of irradiation in a flux of thermal neutrons is described. The performance of the proposed separation method was tested by means of analyses of these elements in a series of SRMs and good agreement with certified values was obtained.
