Über 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-sialinsäuren, 1. Mitt.: Synthese und Eigenschaften von 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-acylneuraminsäuren und deren Methylestern

Abstract: Wenn nach Behandlung der 2-Chlor-2-deoxy-4,7,8,9-tetra-O-acetyl-N-acetylneuraminsaure mit HCl-abspaltenden Mitteln oder nach langerem Erhitzen der in Dioxan gelosten 2,4,7,8,9-Penta-O-acetyl-N-acetylneuraminsaure das Reaktionsprodukt O-deacetyliert wurde, entstand eine Verbindung, die mit Resorcin die fur Sialinsaurederivate typische Farbreaktion gab. Sie gab mit CH2N2 einen Methylester, der bei der katalyt. Hydrierung 1 Mol H2 pro Mol aufnahm und 2 Mol Natriummetaperjodat pro Mol verbrauchte. Diese Eigenschaften sowie die Elementaranalyse, das UV-, IR- und NMR-Spektrum der Verbindung wiesen diese als eine 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-acetylneuraminsaure aus. Analog zur Darstellung des Methylesters der 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-acetylneuraminsaure wurden von uns die Methylester der 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-glykolyl-, 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-propionyl-, 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-butyryl-, 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-benzoyl-und 2-Deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-carbobenzoxyneuraminsaure erhalten.

Abstract: 1 Cytochrome oxidase extracted from mitochondria of wild-type baker's yeast by means of bile salts and fractionated with ammonium sulfate had a specific activity about 18 times that of the mitochondria When mitochondria of a cytoplasmic “petite” mutant were subjected to the same procedure, the resulting preparation exhibited virtually no cytochrome oxidase activity 2 Gel filtration resolved the active enzyme preparation into five protein peaks, the first of which contained copper and cytohemin and showed cytochrome oxidase activity Bio-Gel P-300 filtration of the inactive preparation from mitochondria of the “petite” mutant likewise gave five peaks The first peak, however, while containing copper, was free from cytohemin and devoid of cytochrome oxidase activity 3 When the material recovered from the first gel filtration peak of the active cytochrome oxidase preparation was subjected to disc electrophoresis on polyacrylamide, there appeared two protein bands Two bands characterized by the same mobilities were also observed upon disc electrophoresis of the first peak material derived from mutant mitochondria 4 The evidence for the presence in “petite” mutant mitochondria of a protein which is identical with or closely similar to the apoprotein of wild-type yeast cytochrome oxidase was confirmed by the finding that the incubation of submitochondrial particles of the “petite” mutant with cytohemin produced cytochrome oxidase activity The enzymatic activity obtained was about 30% of that encountered in submitochondrial particles of wild-type yeast

Enzymatic conversion of human O into A erythrocytes and of B into AB erythrocytes.

Abstract: KNOWLEDGE of the chemistry of the ABO blood-group antigens is based principally on investigations of water-soluble blood-group substances of glycoprotein nature, occurring in body secretions. The serological determinants in blood-group A, B and H active glycoproteins have been found to be α-N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, α-D-galactose and α-L-fucose residues, respectively1. There is good evidence, however, that the blood-group antigens of erythrocytes, in contrast to the water soluble substances, are glycolipids. Their detailed structure has not yet been established2.

Energie-Relaxation warmer Ladungsträger in Germanium und Silizium

Abstract: Experimental data on warm carrier energy relaxation times in germanium and silicon are reported. Measurements were done by the method of harmonic mixing of microwaves 1 in the temperature range between 77 and 200 °K. Relaxation times obtained forn-type germanium are in agreement with data reported byMorgan 2 as well as that ofSeeger 3 andGibsonet al. 4. Measured energy relaxation times forp-type germanium as well as forn- andp-type silicon are reported here for the first time. A qualitative interpretation is given in terms of scattering by acoustic and optical phonons.

Calorimetric Evidence for the Structure of Films adsorbed at the Solid/Liquid Interface: the Heats of Wetting of ‘Graphon’ by some n-Alkanes

Abstract: EARLY work showed that the heat of wetting of graphitized carbon (for example ‘Graphon’) by non-polar liquids was largely independent of the precise nature of the liquid In particular, in the alkane series, the number (n) of carbon atoms in the chain was said to have little effect on the heat of wetting of unit area of solid1–3 Robert4 suggested that alkane molecules were adsorbed parallel to the surface, that a methyl group and a —(CH2)2— unit occupied roughly equal areas (14 A2) and that a methyl group and a single methylene group were each adsorbed with an energy, relative to the liquid, of about 1,500 calories mole−1 On this basis the heat of wetting per unit area should rise slowly to a limiting value (dotted curve Fig 1a) More recently, Robert5 measured the heat of wetting of several carbons by alkanes at 20° C: for some carbons (‘Vulcan 3’, ‘Spheron’) the heats of wetting varied only slightly with n, while for others (‘Graphon’, Acheson graphite) they increased rapidly Robert offered no explanation of this behaviour, and it is inconsistent with his earlier proposal

Indikationen und Ergebnisse der transduodenalen Sphincterotomie

Abstract: Bericht uber 215 transduodenale Sphincterotomien (156 Erstoperationen, 59 Rezidivoperationen). Absolute Indikationen zur Sphincterotomie bildeten der eingeklemmte Papillenstein und die Papillenstenose, relative Indikationen Falle von Choledocholithiasis ohne Beteiligung der Papille. Die Operationssterblichkeit betrug 3,2% (2,5% bei Erstoperationen, 5% bei Rezidivoperatioen). 15 Pat. starben in den folgenden Jahren. 183 Pat. (=94%) wurden 2 bis 7 Jahre postoperativ nachuntersucht: 162 Pat. (88,5%) waren vollkommen beschwerdefrei; 21 Pat. (11,5%) gaben Beschwerden an. Die Ursache der Beschwerden konnten bei 11 Pat. nicht eindeutig geklart werden, bei 4 Pat. fand sich eine chronische Pankreatitis, 6 Pat. wurden reoperiert (2mal Choledocholithiasis, 1mal Narbenstenose des Choledochus, 1mal Hepatitis, 1mal Ileitis terminalis, 1mal Ulcus duodeni). Bei 3 Pat. wurden anlaslich der Reoperation 2, 4 und 5 Jahre nach Sphincterotomie der Choledochusresidualdruck und der Papillendurchflus kontrolliert. Bei 123 Pat. wurde 2 bis 7 Jahre nach Sphincterotomie die Ventilfunktion der Papille untersucht. Ein duodenobiliarer Reflux wurde in 43% der Falle beobachtet. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen Reflux und postoperativen beschwerden lies sich nicht nachweisen.

Die Kristallstruktur der Verbindung Li6[Si2O7]

Abstract: Die Kristallstruktur von Li6[Si2O7] wird mit Hilfe von Patterson-Projektionen und dreidimensionalen Fourier-Synthesen sowie nach der Methode der kleinsten Quadrate bestimmt. Die Gitterparameter der tetragonalen Elementarzelle (P421m-D 2d 3 ) betragen:a=7,715;c=4,88 A. Die Verbindung zahlt zu den Sorosilicaten mit isolierten [Si2O7]-Gruppen. Die Lithiumionen weisen gegenuber Sauerstoff die Koordinationszahlen 4 und 5 auf. Als mittlere Abstande [A] wurden ermittelt: Si-O : 1,64 Li-O : 1,95 [4] und 2,18 [5].

Die Kristallstruktur des W3CoB3 und der dazu isotypen Phasen Mo3CoB3, Mo3NiB3 und W3NiB3

Abstract: Mo3CoB3, Mo3NiB3, W3CoB3 und W3NiB3 kristallisieren in einem eigenen Typ (W3CoB3-Struktur). Das trigonal prismatische Bauelement [T6B]* ist zu Ketten vereinigt, wobei B3-Gruppen entstehen. Die Phasen sind vermutlich Bor-reicher als obiger Formel entspricht.

Abstract: Das fur Zweistoffsysteme angegebene Auswerteverfahren zur Ermittlung der freien Zusatzenthalpie ΔGE und der chemischen Zusatzpotentiale μiE aus massenspektrometrischen Daten wird auf Dreistoffsysteme erweitert.

Juvenile form of spongy degeneration of the CNS

Abstract: Clinico—pathological report of two sporadic cases of spongy degeneration of the CNS of non-Jewish origin with onset of clinical symptoms at the age of 5 years and protracted course up to late adolescence. The morphological findings of this “juvenile type” of the disorder, including diffuse spongy vacuolation of both the white and grey matter of the neuraxis, with diffuse and severe demyelination and astroglial hyperplasia, were consistent with those of other protracted infantile cases. In addition to spongy degeneration, axonal dystrophy and hyperpigmentation of the pallido-nigral system and axonal spheroids in the spongy cerebellar white matter were present in both cases. The significance of axonal dystrophy in these protracted forms of spongy degeneration is discussed.

Occurrence and assay of alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminyl transferase in the gastric mucosa of humans belonging to blood group A.

Abstract: According to a current and well-documented hypothesis, the last step in the biosynthesis of blood-group A substance consists in the attachment of a terminal GalNAc residue to a precursor molecule El]. In the case of water-soluble blood-group A substance, the precursor is blood-group H substance. The enzyme catalyzing the last step of the synthesis of A substance is under the control of the blood-group A gene [2]. The blood-group A character of an individual or a human tissue is usually defined by ascertaining serologically or immunochemically the presence of blood-group A substance in the specimen tested. It would be of great interest, however, t o be able t o determine, in addition, the presence or absence in a tissue of the A-synthesizing enzyme. This enzyme is a more direct product of the blood-group A gene than the blood-group A substance, the formation of which is dependent not only on this enzyme, but also on the availability of group H substance. Recently an enzyme was found in hog gastric mucosa which catalyzes the transfer of radioactive GalNAc from labelled UDP-GalNAc t o blood-group substance [3]. When a partially purified soluble preparation of this enzyme was incubated with porcine blood-group H substance and tritium-labelled UDP-GalNAc in the presence of Mn++, blood-group A activity appeared, which could be assayed by hemagglutination inhibition tests [4]. Einige Bemerkungen zur statistischen Messung der Konzentration

Abstract: Nach einer kritischen Analyse der Begriffe „absolute“ und „relative“ Konzentration werden einige Kriterien gegeben, die Maszahlen der absoluten oder der relativen Konzentration zu erfullen haben. Hierauf wird untersucht, inwieweit die gebrauchlichsten Maszahlen der Konzentration (Gini, Herfindahl, MUnzner) diese Kriterien erfullen. Dann wird gezeigt, das sich eine vonAdam angegebene, sehr allgemeine Klasse von Maszahlen als Maszahlen der absoluten Konzentration qualifizieren; einige wichtige Spezialfalle werden genauer untersucht. Im vorletzten Teil der Arbeit werden Maszahlen fur die Veranderung der Konzentration diskutiert und schlieslich an einem praktischen Beispiel erprobt.

Correlation of structure and RNA synthesis in the nucleolus-organizing polytene chromosomes of Phaseolus vulgaris

Abstract: The relationship between RNA synthesis and morphology of the nucleolus-organizing polytene chromosomes in the highly endopolyploid suspensor cells of Phaseolus vulgaris has been studied by actinomycin D treatment, temperature lowering, and H3-uridine autoradiography. Actinomycin D and low temperature induce a condensation of the giant chromosomes, particularly of the nuoleolus organizers and of the intranucleolar regions of the chromosomes. RNA synthesis occurs in the extended state of the chromosomes, but it ceases in the highly condensed state caused by the treatment of the cells either with actinomycin D or with low temperature.

Die Kristallstruktur der Verbindung LiNa[Ge 4 O 9 ]

Abstract: Die Kristallstruktur der Verbindung LiNa[Ge4O9] wird durch dreidimensionale Patterson- und Fourier-Synthesen bestimmt und mit Hilfe der Methode der kleinsten Quadrate verfeinert. Die rhombische Elementarzelle (Pcca-D 2h 8 ) mit den Abmessungen:a=9,31,b=4,68,c=15,88 A enthalt 4 Formeleinheiten. Die Struktur wird aus [GeO3] n -Ketten mit tetraedrisch koordiniertem Germanium aufgebaut, die uber [GeO6]-Oktaeder zu einem dreidimensionalen Gerust vernetzt sind. Als mittlere interatomare Ge-O-Abstande wurden erhalten: 1,758 [4] und 1,866[6] A. Die Verbindung LiNa[Ge4O9] stellt ein Endglied der Mischreihe Li2−x Na x [Ge4O9] dar.

Tetrahydrofuranverbindungen der Seltenerdchloride

Abstract: Die Tetrahydrofuran-(THF-)Solvate der Chloride von Eu, Tb, Tm und Lu wurden durch Extraktion mitTHF erstmalig hergestellt, die der meisten anderen Seltenerdchloride in verbesserter Reinheit. DerTHF-Gehalt der Solvate betragt: La und Ce 1,5 Mol, Nd und Pr 2 Mol, Sm bis Tm (einschlieslich Y) 3,5 Mol, Yb und Lu 3 Mol Losungsmittel je Mol Chlorid. Die Solvate mit 3,5THF gehen beim Behandeln mit Ather oder Benzol bei Raumtemp. in solche mit 2 MolTHF uber (neu hergestellt wurden die 2-Solvate von Eu, Tb und Dy). Die Loslichkeit der stabilen Solvate inTHF bei 22° wurde bestimmt.

Kombination von Amyotrophischer Lateralsklerose mit Pickscher Krankheit

Abstract: Fallbericht einer 64 jahrigen Frau, bei der das klinische Bild von den Symptomen einer ALS mit bulbarem Beginn und Fortschreiten bis zur Quadruparese bestimmt war. Krankheitsdauer 2 Jahre. Psychische Storungen oder Zeichen einer organischen Demenz waren nicht oder nur gering vorhanden. — Neuropathologisch fand sich auser den typischen Veranderungen einer ALS mit proximalen Axonauftreibungen in den Vorderhornem des Ruckenmarks eine umschriebene symmetrische Atrophie medio-basaler Windungsabschnitte als fur den Temporaltyp der Pickschen Krankheit charakteristische Lasionen. — Diese Beobachtung gibt einen weiteren Hinweis fur das gemeinsame Vorkommen heredodegenerativer Erkrankungen des ZNS.

Histochemische Studien an Myoklonuskörpern bei progressiver Myoklonusepilepsie (Typ Unverricht)

Abstract: Bei zwei im Alter von 22 und 19 Jahren verstorbenen mannlichen Patienten mit Myoklonuskorperkrankheit (Typ Unverricht) wurde das Kleinhirn mit topochemischen, enzymatischen und fluorescenzmikroskopischen Methoden untersucht. Die Myoklonuskorper enthalten einen schwer wasserloslichen, basophilen Polyglucosan-Protein-Komplex. Das spezifische Speicherprodukt stellt ein den “Amylopektinen” nahestehendes verzweigtes Polyglucosan mit vorwiegend α-1,4-Bindungen dar, welches sich bei ausreichenden Enzymkonzentrationen und Inkubationszeiten durch α-Amylase und in geringem Grade durch β-Amylase abbauen last. Die Basophilie und Toluidinblaumetachromasie (Absorptionsmaximum bei 560–565 nm) des Komplexes beruhen offensichtlich auf Phosphat- und nicht auf Sulfatgruppen. Neuraminidase bleibt wirkungslos. Im Kern der grosen geschichteten Myoklonuskorper sind (maskierte) Proteine erst nach Vorverdauung mit Papain histochemisch nachweisbar. Die stoffliche Zusammensetzung der Myoklonuskorper und die sich hieraus abzeichenenden Korrelationen zur Ultrastruktur bilden den Gegenstand einer ausfuhrlichen Diskussion.

Messung des Ultrarot-Pleochroismus von Mineralen VIII. Der Pleochroismus der OH-Streckfrequenz in Andalusit

Abstract: Mikroskopisch Einschlus-freie Andalusite aus Brasilien zeigen im UR-Absorptionsspektrum ein Doppelmaximum bei zirka 2,9 μ und ein deutlich schwacheres einfaches Maximum bei 3,04 μ, die OH-Valenzschwingungen zugeordnet werden. Diese Maxima verschwinden nach mehrtagigem Gluhen bei 1000° C. In Platten parallel (110) zeigt das Doppelmaximum bei zirka 2,9μ einen extrem starken Pleochroismus, wobei die Bande praktisch vollig verschwindet, wenn der elektrische Vektor parallel [001] schwingt. Damit mussen zumindest die OH-Gruppen, die fur diese Bande verantwortlich sind, in die Struktur eingebaut sein. Fur beide Arten von OH-Gruppen werden die plausiblen Anordnungen diskutiert.

Stereochemie von Metallocenen, 24. Mitt.: Optisch aktive [3] und [3][3]Ferrocenophane, 1. Mitt.: Darstellung, Racematspaltung und absolute Konfiguration (45. Mitt. über Ferrocenderivate)

Abstract: Aus [3] und [3][3](1,3)Ferrocenophan wurden die isomeren Carbonsauren uber ihreN,N-Diphenylamide dargestellt und uber die α-Phenathylaminsalze in die Antipoden gespalten. Die absoluten Konfigurationen der Sauren (und damit aller Derivate und Folgeprodukte) wurden sowohl durch chemische Korrelation mit Methylferrocen-α-undβ-carbonsauren bekannter Konfiguration als auch durch kinetische Racematspaltung ihrer Anhydride mit (-)-α-Phenathylamin ermittelt. Aus der Methylferrocen-1′-carbonsaure wurden durch Kettenverlangerung zur Propionsaure, Cyclisierung und Racematspaltung der Ringketone mit Menthydrazid ebenfalls aktive Ferrocenophane gewonnen, und ihre Konfiguration durch chemische Korrelation bestimmt. Die beschriebenen 45 optisch aktiven Ferrocenophanderivate sind wegen ihrer starren Konformation und der dadurch bedingten Fixierung chromophorer Gruppen-vor allem im Vergleich mit analogenhomoanular uberbruckten Ferrocenen-fur die Diskussion und Interpretation der Ferrocenchiralitat von grosem Interesse. From [3] and [3][3](1.3)ferrocenophane the isomeric carboxylic acids were preparedvia theirN,N-diphenylamides and resolvedvia the α-phenethylamine salts. The absolute configurations of the acids (and thereby of all derivatives and subsequent products) were established both by chemical correlations with methylferrocene-α-and-β-carboxylic acids of known configurations and by kinetic resolutions of their anhydrides with (-)-α- phenethylamine. From methylferrocene-1′-carboxylic acid by chain lengthening, cyclization of the propionic acid and resolution of the ring ketones with menthydrazide, likewise active ferrocenophanes were obtained and their configurations determined by chemical correlations. The described 45 optically active ferrocenophane derivatives are because of their rigid conformations and the thereby caused fixation of chromophoric groups-mainly in comparison with analogoushomoanular bridged ferrocenes-of great interest for the discussion and interpretation of the ferrocene chirality.

Die Auxosporenbildung vonNitzschia amphibia

Abstract: Nitzschia amphibia fuhrt eine end to end-Paarung durch, obwohl — im Unterschied zu ahnlichen Fallen — die Apikalachse isopol ist. Es entwickeln sich miteinander in Kontakt stehende Kopulationspapillen, die sich zu einem Kopulationsschlauch vereinigen. In ihm fusionieren die Gameten unter dem Bild von Isogamie. Jede Mutterzelle bildet, im Unterschied zu den drei anderen vonNitzschia bisher bekannten Modi der Kopulation unter Bildung von zwei Gameten, nur einen Gameten, und zwar aus dem gesamten Protoplasten, ohne das mit der Meiose eine abortive Zytokinese verbunden ist.Nitzschia amphibia unterscheidet sich in Besonderheiten des Paarungsverhaltens von allen anderen bisher bekannten pennaten Diatomeen. — Die Artdiagnose ist durch die erweiterte Langenvariation von 10,5–67μ zu erganzen.
