TL;DR: This model correctly classifies 79.8% of the decisions made with respect to the adoption of ERP and may be interesting to managers seeking to be more proactive in planning for their adoption of an ERP system.
Abstract: Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are costly and complex but vital for companies having to face a rapidly changing business environment and an increasingly competitive marketplace. As the first study to examine the factors within the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework that affect the decision to adopt ERP in Taiwan's communications industry, the empirical tests conducted here are based on personal interviews with a sample of 99 firms in Taiwan's communications industry. Eight factors in three broad categories are tested using logistic regression, and four of these, technology readiness, size, perceived barriers and production and operations improvements, are found to be important determinants of the adoption of ERP. This model correctly classifies 79.8% of the decisions made with respect to the adoption of ERP. The results substantiate the usefulness of this model which may be interesting to managers seeking to be more proactive in planning for their adoption of an ERP system.

TL;DR: There is a direct relationship between consumer attitudes and consumer intentions and personalization is one of the most important factors in affecting consumers' attitude toward mobile advertising, particularly for female users, so the designers and marketers should effectively strategize their advertising designs by considering the personalization factor.
Abstract: The high penetration rate of mobile phones has resulted in the increasing use of handheld devices to conduct mobile commerce. Mobile advertising, a very important class of mobile commerce applications, is a very promising direct marketing channel empowered by the Web's interactive and quick-response capabilities. Short Messaging Services, in particular, have been very successful. The present research investigates the factors that will affect consumer attitudes toward mobile advertising in China with particular emphasis on personalization. The results of a survey indicate that (1) there is a direct relationship between consumer attitudes and consumer intentions and (2) personalization is one of the most important factors in affecting consumers' attitude toward mobile advertising, particularly for female users. Thus the designers and marketers should effectively strategize their advertising designs by considering the personalization factor.

TL;DR: Achieving a successful CRM environment needs not only the critical success factors analyzed but also some practical aspects, especially the cooperation of the IT and other functionalities within the enterprise.
Abstract: Customer relationship management is a buzzword around businesses. “CRM comprises a set of processes and enabling systems supporting a business strategy to build long term, profitable relationships with specific customers.” There are a few components of CRM implementation, most importantly, the IT component. While revolutionary in many respects, CRM is also a natural and predictable extension of how marketing and sales have evolved over the years and, in many ways, are coming full circle. The Customer Relationship Management Cycle consists of an evaluation phase, a planning phase, an implementation phase, and a review phase. Several intrinsic business reasons are driving a great number of companies going onto the CRM highway. Companies can overlay their own data to better understand customer attributes and get better results. The most substantial impacts from CRM transitions fall into the category of information support. Customer information and the associated technology tools are the foundation upon which...

TL;DR: A theoretical model that combines flow theory with the Theory of Reasoned Action is proposed and empirically tested and explains 60% of individuals' intentions to make purchases online.
Abstract: A theoretical model that combines flow theory with the Theory of Reasoned Action is proposed and empirically tested. Data was gathered via a sample survey, which was completed by 342 undergraduate college students. Two-phase structural equation modeling was utilized to verify construct validity and test proposed relationships. The study establishes the psychological state of flow as an important independent variable influencing both Web exploratory behavior and attitude toward purchasing online. In turn, attitude toward purchasing online was found to influence behavioral intentions to engage in online purchase transactions. Exploratory behavior was also identified as an independent variable exerting a significant effect on online purchasing attitude. The resultant model explains 60% of individuals' intentions to make purchases online. Key theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.

TL;DR: The results show that extrinsic motivation imposed no impact on an individual's attitude towards knowledge sharing while the other two factors played a significant part.
Abstract: Based on the theory of reasoned action, this study is focused on an individual's behavior of knowledge sharing with respect to information systems/information technology (IS/IT) by investigating their attitude towards knowledge sharing. Three variables, namely extrinsic motivation, absorptive capacity and channel richness, were examined as influential factors affecting people's attitude towards knowledge sharing. A structural survey was conducted to test the relationships between attitude and the three variables. The results show that extrinsic motivation imposed no impact on an individual's attitude towards knowledge sharing while the other two factors played a significant part. The results are consistent with the psychological theories and we showed the applicability of the theories in the case of knowledge sharing.

TL;DR: The number of hours spent using the internet per week had a significant impact on all four measures of electronic commerce participation, whether they bought something online, how many times they bought Something Online, how frequently and how much was spent buying online.
Abstract: As many retailers struggle with their on-line operations and dot corns close their virtual doors, it has become critical to understand why consumers buy online. This study applies the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to electronic commerce participation using a sample of 138 college students. Ease of use was found to have an impact on whether someone would buy a product online and on usefulness. Usefulness had an impact on the number of times a respondent purchased items online. The number of hours spent using the internet per week had a significant impact on all four measures of electronic commerce participation, whether they bought something online, how many times they bought something online, how frequently and how much was spent buying online. Surprisingly, security and privacy concerns did not have an impact on electronic commerce participation. The implications, limitations and directions for future research are addressed.

TL;DR: In post-analysis theory building, a conceptual model is given that proposes that the positive causal effect of service quality on relationship quality would be positively moderated by the client orientation and promotion effectiveness of the vendor, while the positive causality of relationship quality on servicequality would be mediated by the project management effectiveness.
Abstract: A national survey of firms that participated in outsourcing relationships was conducted, and service quality and relationship quality were found to be significantly and positively related to each other and both had a significant impact on user satisfaction. However, the intricacies of the causal effects between the two autonomous constructs, service quality and relationship quality, are a source of interest. In post-analysis theory building, we give a conceptual model that proposes that the positive causal effect of service quality on relationship quality would be positively moderated by the client orientation and promotion effectiveness of the vendor, while the positive causal effect of relationship quality on service quality would be mediated by the project management effectiveness. Hence, this paper comprises of two related parts: first an empirical study, and secondly developing a theory and conceptual model that delve into the causalities involved in service quality, relationship quality, and the rol...

TL;DR: High levels of user satisfaction and perceived usefulness, both in nominal values and in comparison to other systems, and a strong correlation between perceived usefulness and user satisfaction are revealed, suggesting that perceived usefulness is one of the factors affecting user satisfaction with ERP systems.
Abstract: Initially, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems held the promise of easily integrating all processes within and around the organization. Many reported ERP failures have led us to conduct, within the context of ERP implementation, an empirical examination of two success indicators: user satisfaction and perceived usefulness. The results reveal high levels of user satisfaction and perceived usefulness, both in nominal values and in comparison to other systems. They also show a strong correlation between perceived usefulness and user satisfaction, suggesting that perceived usefulness is one of the factors affecting user satisfaction with ERP systems. On the other hand, hypotheses testing revealed no supporting evidence for possible relationships between user satisfaction or perceived usefulness and organizational characteristics such as the department to which the respondent belonged or user characteristics such as organizational level, education, age, computing experience, and gender.

TL;DR: The results suggest that many websites can be improved with regard to link appearance, navigation, and the inclusion of more positive features such as breadcrumb trails and search boxes to improve usability.
Abstract: Web usability advocates stress the importance of clarity, simplicity, and consistency in web design so that users can perform desired operations efficiently and effectively. If a website lacks these characteristics, users may become confused or frustrated and “take their business” to competing sites. Usability advocates have made anecdotal observations about the extent to which websites follow “good” design practices. However, there have been few attempts to address this issue from a research perspective. This study presents an analysis of INC. 500 company websites using eleven measures, grouped into three categories: avoidance of web design errors, adherence to web design conventions, and inclusion of features to promote usability. These measures were derived from usability guidelines proposed in the literature. The results revealed that while a few design guidelines are commonly followed, most showed a high degree of variation. The mean number of guidelines followed per website was 5.5 out of a possible...

TL;DR: Findings show that consumer perceptions of certain cognitive cues are important predictors of initial trust in an e-retailer, but Web assurance structures are less important in the formation ofInitial trust and purchase intentions.
Abstract: Within the context of the initial Trust Building Model (TBM) of McKnight et al. (39), we examine specific factors related to Web site quality and structural assurance. Our model is tested using an actual Web site and consumers experienced in e-commerce. Findings show that consumer perceptions of certain cognitive cues (i.e., communication, opportunism, product brand equity, Web site attractiveness) are important predictors of initial trust in an e-retailer. However, Web assurance structures are less important in the formation of initial trust and purchase intentions. It is important in the development of Web assurance and consultative services to address pertinent trust issues by offering specific Web site solutions.

TL;DR: A model of three latent constructs: Facilitating conditions, Wireless Trust, and intention to adopt WIMT, where Facilitating Conditions influences perceived trust in the wireless mobile environment which, in turn, influences user intention to adopted wireless mobile technology is proposed.
Abstract: For wireless Internet services via mobile technology (WIMT), are there any unique determinants for user acceptance of this technology innovation? Based on literature review, this paper proposes a model of three latent constructs: Facilitating Conditions, Wireless Trust, and intention to adopt WIMT, where Facilitating Conditions influences perceived trust in the wireless mobile environment which, in turn, influences user intention to adopt wireless mobile technology. A sample of 357 MBA students from a regional university was used for model testing. Structural equation modeling procedures were employed for data analysis. The hypothesized model revealed an acceptable fit. Path analysis of the postulated relationships demonstrated a large direct causal effect from Facilitating Conditions to Wireless Trust and a medium direct effect from Wireless Trust to Intention to Adopt WIMT. Some findings for the first time provided empirical support to the literature and important implications for further research and l...

TL;DR: This model utilizes a variant of emerging behavioral decision theory, called Image Theory, to develop a two-stage process of IS hiring where the first stage utilizes technical skills for filtration and the second stage utilizes soft skills for the choice in actual hiring.
Abstract: This paper calls attention to a paradox in the recruiting and hiring literature in IS and offers a possible reconciliation of the paradox based on recent advances in behavioral decision theory. The paradox is the contradictory demand for IT/IS technologies as advertised job skills in contrast to soft skills as actual or implicit hiring criteria. The specific purpose of this research is to introduce a model that may explain and reconcile the use and importance of both technical skills and soft skills in the hiring of IS personnel. This model utilizes a variant of emerging behavioral decision theory, called Image Theory to develop a two-stage process of IS hiring where the first stage utilizes technical skills for filtration and the second stage utilizes soft skills for the choice in actual hiring. This model of IS hiring decision making may serve as a starting point for future research on the demand for IS job skills.

TL;DR: An exploratory study to investigate the impacts of size, culture, and structure of the adopting organization on ERP system success evaluations and revealed positive relationships between organizational size, structure, and culture and ERP systems success.
Abstract: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are packaged information technology (IT) suites that are increasingly becoming the price of entry for running a business, and such systems are gaining popularity worldwide. Researchers have discussed their adoption and implementation. Few have investigated the impacts of size, culture, and structure of the adopting organization on ERP system success evaluations. There is also a dearth of research on the effects of organizational IT issues or factors such as IT assets and resources (i.e., the IT department's value, the IT department's size, and the sophistication of the in-house IT professionals, among others) on ERP systems success. To our knowledge no study has investigated the interactions between these organizational IT issues and other contingency factors. To fill this gap in research, we designed an exploratory study to investigate the impacts of the aforementioned factors in the context of ERP systems success evaluations. Rather than considering the impacts...

TL;DR: The results of this exploratory study suggest that trust is an important component in technology acceptance and adoption and that this construct should be incorporated into future research which focuses on technology adoption.
Abstract: The study of trust in the context of technology adoption is one of initial trust formation. Due to the lack of complete information, an individual must make a ‘leap of faith’ when committing to the new technology. This leap of faith is trust. This study uses institution-based trust theory to link the characteristics of a new technology to the trusting stance of the potential adopter. This trusting stance is then linked to the technology adoption decision. The research model was tested using policy capturing. Policy capturing is a simulation-based decision modeling technique that allows the researcher to observe a simulation of actual decisions being made. The questionnaire was developed and administered to 181 undergraduate students. The results of this exploratory study suggest that trust is an important component in technology acceptance and adoption and that this construct should be incorporated into future research which focuses on technology adoption.
