TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the initial response undertaken by Central European companies in the early stages of the COVID-19 virus outbreak and assess how different economy sectors were changed due to this situation.
Abstract: The world finds itself facing unprecedented conditions as the global pandemic of the COVID-19 virus has led to fundamental changes in the global supply chains This paper aims to assess the initial response undertaken by Central European companies in the early stages of the outbreak The survey was conducted as a research method to collect data from a large number of companies Since it takes time to assess long-term effects of the pandemic and related measures, various changes in supply chains are examined as the early results of the COVID-19 crisis and measures implemented by companies The study examines how different economy sectors were changed due to this situation The changes in operating volumes were identified as the most commonly used measures to accommodate new market developments However, developing the new supply chain partnership was the most successful measure This measure correlates with an increase in revenues and an increase in the number of customers In some cases, disruptions in supply chains had positive effects on revenues as a reaction to the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak Cross-country examinations found that all Polish companies implemented at least one new measure to tackle this crisis Nearly 20% of Slovak companies and nearly 30% of Czech companies made no changes in their operations during the early stages of the crisis However, overall, the supply chains in Central European countries turned out to be quite resilient, since most companies managed to survive the supply chain disruptions and in some cases even show signs of overcoming them completely Acknowledgement This contribution was supported by the project No 1/0757/18, “Consumer behavior in buying goods of daily consumption with an emphasis placed different contents of goods offered on markets of selected EU countries”

TL;DR: Lutfi et al. as mentioned in this paper investigated the impact of social distancing policies on SMEs in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic and found that the policy's impact raises anxiety for SMEs to survive so that business actors change their plans by utilizing information technology.
Abstract: This study aims to investigate the impact of social distancing policies on SMEs in Indonesia It used a quantitative method with a survey design Respondents were all SMEs in Indonesia that are affected by social distancing policies during the COVID-19 pandemic It involved a total of 587 SME samples selected randomly The data were collected through observations, questionnaires, and literature studies The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS software to determine the mean value The result showed that social distancing policies affect SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic This is indicated by the decreasing income and demand for SMEs products, and even some have no income (mean values of 2 40) due to the social distancing policies Besides, the policy's impact is also shown in the increasing cost of raw materials and production costs due to supply chain problems (mean values of 4 79) The policy's impact raises anxiety for SMEs to survive so that business actors change their plans by utilizing information technology (mean values of 4 81) This change is a strategy to survive due to the impact of the applied policies Although social distancing policies affect SMEs' survival during the pandemic, research findings show that SMEs in Indonesia did not terminate employment (mean values of 4 37) due to the presence of economic stimulus policies that helped SMEs survive and grow during the COVID-19 pandemic  Muhtar Lutfi, Pricylia Chintya Dewi Buntuang, Yoberth Kornelius,Erdiyansyah, Bakri Hasanuddin, 2020 © 2020 LLC CPC Business Perspectives All rights reserved

TL;DR: In this article, the mediating role of ambidexterity within knowledge management in project success connection is investigated. And the results show that knowledge management is an integral aspect of project success, and it has a significant positive effect on project success but does not significantly enhance project success.
Abstract: Enhanced positive outcomes and benefits require project management to be integrated with knowledge management (KM) to induce ambidexterity and project success. To offer an empirical insight into this issue and advance the field of knowledge further, this research studies the mediating role of ambidexterity within the KM project success connection. The data collected from a sample of 350 senior people who have familiarity with relevant capital projects in the manufacturing companies in Jordan were analyzed using the algorithm of partial least squares (PLS) and bootstrapping techniques. The findings of the study show that KM is an integral aspect of project success, and it has a significant positive effect on project success, but KM, which does not induce ambidexterity, could not significantly enhance project success. KM can induce and stimulate enhanced project performance and benefits only when it induces ambidexterity. This implies that project success requires KM, given that KM allows organizations to possess exploitative and explorative capabilities simultaneously to tackle issues arising from the external environment. That this study covers only the manufacturing sector in Jordan, the research model can be replicated in other contexts to solidify the findings of the current study.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed an innovative approach to calculate the intensity of the population's external migration based on the introduction of a correction coefficient, which enables to consider the scale of transit migration in the Carpathian Region.
Abstract: The Carpathian Region (Zakarpattia, Lviv, Chernivtsi, and Ivano-Frankivsk) is inferior to other regions in Ukraine regarding its economic development, which does not contribute to migration stability and, rather, serves as a factor motivating the active part of the population to emigrate. The problem of the labor market disproportions in the Carpathian Region is one of the significant causes of the formation and subsequent implementation of migration intentions, especially in rural areas, less economically developed areas, and district centers, where labor demand is much lower. The research aims to develop an innovative approach to calculating the intensity of the population’s external migration based on the introduction of a correction coefficient, which enables to consider the scale of transit migration in the Carpathian Region. The data presented in the study were collected for the period 2005–2018. Granger causality analysis is used to assess the relationship between migration and socio-economic development of the region. The analysis reveals that in all regions of the Carpathian Region, there is a short-run causal relationship between the intensity of external migration and the share of total household expenditure on food; in the medium run, the real household income, the size of the average monthly wages, and the volume of foreign portfolio investment, the foreign economic activity and retail trade turnover in the region; in the long run, living standards and indicators of economic growth. Future studies may require a more diverse set of indicators to evaluate the causal relationship in other regions of Ukraine, which will provide the integrity of the results of Granger causality analysis. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the combination of principal components method and parametric method of stochastic frontier analysis in the software package STATA 11 and FRONTIER 4.1 to define the relationship between the efficiency of the sustainable development of the national economy and state regulation of education.
Abstract: Education is a core element of the Sustainable Development Concept. It is not only because of the declaration of SDG 4 within the 2030 Agenda but also its embeddedness in other goals, targets, and indicators. Thus, the study aims to generalize approaches to define the relationship between the efficiency of the strategy of sustainable development of the national economy and state regulation of education. The research is accomplished for 14 Central and Eastern European countries (2006–2016) using the combination of principal components method and parametric method of stochastic frontier analysis in the software package STATA 11 and FRONTIER 4.1. As a result, the empirical proofs of the strong and adequate link between the efficiency of the sustainable development strategy of the national economy and state regulation of education are identified. The technical efficiency indexes were also calculated that allowed forming three clusters for Central and Eastern European countries distributed by the level of state regulation of education and efficiency of sustainable development strategy implementation. It helps to distinguish the main measures to reform the state regulation of education in Ukraine considering the experience of Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, countries that proved to be the leaders in a sphere of sustainable development strategy implementation. The recommendations for further improvements in educational policies were defined. For instance, effective and sustainable state regulation of education should focus on decentralizing education, developing private-public partnerships, stimulating adult education development, etc. Acknowledgment and fundingThis research was funded by the grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “Reforming the lifelong learning system in Ukraine for the prevention of the labor emigration: a coopetition model of institutional partnership” (No. 0120U102001).

TL;DR: This study aims to assess the level of threat to the information security of countries based on the integral index, proposed to use five indicators characterizing individual areas of information security and 37 world development indicators, selected from the World Bank database.
Abstract: An effective strategy for managing the national information security with capabilities to resist information threats significantly impacts its further development. This study aims to assess the level of threat to the information security of countries based on the integral index. It is proposed to use five indicators characterizing individual areas of information security and 37 world development indicators, selected from the World Bank database. Correlation analysis selected 12 out of 37 development indicators relevant to security indicators for which the correlation coefficient exceeded 0.5 or –0.5. The Harrington-Mencher function is proposed to determine the information security threat index. Nonlinear normalization was carried out to bring the initial data to a comparable measurement. Canonical analysis was performed to determine the indicator weights. The data from 159 countries were taken for 2018 to assess the index. The result was presented on the map showing countries’ distribution by the information security threat index, thus forming five groups. The group with a “very well” resistance to threats includes economically developed countries with a high level of information security. The “well” group was formed by new industrial and developing countries with economic potential sufficient to prevent information threats and combat their consequences. The information security level in developing countries, where the results of overcoming information threats will affect the economic sphere, is defined as “acceptable”. Countries with a low level of development and information security formed groups designated as “bad” and “very bad”, which indicates a high level of threats to their information security. TL;DR: In this paper, a method for predicting amounts of local budget revenues in Ukraine from the land tax and lease fees through the use of communally owned land plots to stimulate entrepreneurial initiatives of the unemployed is proposed.
Abstract: Solving the problem of enhancing the efficiency of the financial and economic regulation of land relations contributes to the development of entrepreneurship in Ukraine. The purpose of the paper is to determine new incentives for encouraging entrepreneurial activity by increasing the efficiency of the financial and economic regulation of land relations by local governments. The study is based on applying the method for predicting amounts of local budget revenues in Ukraine from the land tax and lease fees through the use of communally owned land plots to stimulate entrepreneurial initiatives of the unemployed. In the process of research, the projected amounts of local budget revenues from financial transactions with plots of industrial lands in each region of Ukraine have been determined, taking into account the possibilities of leasing the lands, for which lease fees are covered by a one-time benefit provided to the unemployed for organizing entrepreneurial activity. It is proposed to determine the efficiency of the financial and economic regulation of land relations in the regions of Ukraine, applying indicators such as the use of industrial lands together with objects of lease located on them and the involvement of the unemployed from among the economically active population in entrepreneurial activity. To improve the efficiency of financial and economic regulation of land relations, local governments are proposed to establish the optimal proportion of amounts of borrowed resources, taking into account the need for their saving and rational use.

TL;DR: In this paper, a structured literature review with 81 empirical-quantitative (archival) studies on institutional ownership and ESG is presented based on an agency theoretical framework, showing that long-term institutional ownership leads to increased ESG performance and promotes the ratio of institutional investors.
Abstract: Since the financial crisis of 2008–2009, nonfinancial-related shareholder activism increased, as public interest entities (PIEs) should strengthen their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) activities. This study aims to determine whether institutional ownership (IO) impacts ESG performance and disclosure and vice versa. Moreover, IO’s moderating and mediating influence on the relationship between ESG and firms’ financial consequences is included. This is the first literature review focusing on IO and ESG, describing IO as independent, dependent, moderator, and mediator variable. A structured literature review with 81 empirical-quantitative (archival) studies on that topic is presented based on an agency theoretical framework. Regarding the main results, long-term IO leads to increased ESG performance. Moreover, ESG performance promotes the ratio of institutional investors. Other relationships are rather heterogeneous and too low in an amount yet, stressing major research gaps.

TL;DR: Melnyk et al. as mentioned in this paper estimated the influence of key economic and social drivers of renewable energy and Smart Grid promotion in OECD member countries, and provided policy recommendations for Smart Grid development and points in the future research within OECD countries.
Abstract: There are continuous research and practical interest to combine different renewable sources within one Smart Grid network. The paper aims to estimate the influence of key economic and social drivers of renewable energy and Smart Grid promotion in OECD member countries. The random effect of the generalized least squares method was used to estimate the empirical model based on the World Bank, OECD, Heritage Foundation, and World Energy Council datasets for a panel of 36 OECD counties. For the empirical estimation, the dependent variables considered are energy renewable electricity output and energy trilemma index, taken as two proxies for Smart Grid development. The results suggest that an increase in GDP p. c. in national economies by 10,000 USD leads on average to a 3.9% decrease in renewable electricity output during 2001–2015. The richer the society, the less renewable energy sources were used for power generation in a group of OECD countries. The last is also supported by the fact that gross fixed capital formation treated as a percentage value of GDP is negatively correlated with structural changes in renewable energy output. The empirical conclusion is that during the study period, OECD countries were mainly oriented to economic growth, which was achieved by consuming non-renewable energy resources, and limited attention was paid to sustainability and Millennium Development Goals. The paper provides policy recommendations for Smart Grid development and points in the future research within OECD countries. TL;DR: In this article, the impact of gender diversity on firms' sustainability re-formation and commitment in ensuring collective drive toward achieving sustainable development goals was explored, where female engagement from three major platforms, namely women as directors, management team leaders, and female work-force was explored.
Abstract: This paper aims to explore the impact of gender diversity on firms’ sustainability re- sponsiveness in ensuring collective drive toward achieving sustainable development goals (agenda) for Nigeria. This study explored female engagement from three major platforms, namely women as directors, management team leaders, and female work- force. The data used to conduct this study were derived from the annual reports of the sampled banks spanning through the period of 2013–2016. However, while data for this study were analyzed using EViews statistical tool, the sustainability reporting data were ascertained using the content analysis method. The outcome of this study depicts that female directors, female workforce, and women in the management team all had an adverse and positive association with sustainability reporting. However, this association was all insignificant. This further buttresses that gender diversity was not the major driving force behind the sustainability reporting of the sampled banks in Nigeria. This is because the sector is highly regulated. Hence, the study recommends that notwithstanding the outcome, in attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs), there is a need to have more female representation on the strategic position of authority.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the supporting effect of innovative leadership on IWB and employee engagement by maximizing employee vigor, dedication, and absorption, and found that inclusive leadership behaviors such as openness, accessibility and availability motivated the subordinates to be engaged in IWB.
Abstract: Work creativity manifested in innovative workplace behavior (IWB) and employee work engagement is fundamental to maintaining firm’s sustainability and competitiveness. In this regard, this study investigates the supporting effect of innovative leadership on IWB and employee engagement by maximizing employee vigor, dedication, and absorption. The study data were collected using a questionnaire-based technique, and the questionnaires were administered to 150 respondents working in mobile phone companies in Southern and Central Iraq. The results were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and SmartPLS software. The study results revealed that inclusive leadership and work engagement were significantly related to IWB, and work engagement played a mediating role between inclusive leadership and IWB. The findings further indicated that inclusive leadership behaviors such as openness, accessibility, and availability motivated the subordinates to be engaged in IWB. To promote IWB, company leaders need to effectively engage their followers by taking pride and satisfaction in employee output, which might help employee work engagement and IWB.

Abstract: This paper explores the influence of the ESG disclosure regulation (government corporate ESG disclosure and non-government corporate ESG disclosure) on the ranking in 50 largest economies. Applying various statistical methods and techniques, including both parametrical (Student’s t-test, ANOVA analysis) and non-parametrical (Mann-Whitney U test) tests, simple average analysis, OLS with dummy variables method and multiple linear regression analysis, as well as correlation analysis and Granger causality test, several hypotheses are tested. The hypotheses stipulate whether or not ESG disclosure regulation differs in developed and emerging countries and whether or not ESG disclosure regulation influences the country’s SDGI ranking, as well as the ranking of the country among 50 largest economies. According to the results, the differences in ESG disclosure regulation are statistically significant in developed and emerging countries. The level of ESG disclosure compliance is higher in developed countries. ESG disclosure regulation influences the position of the country in SDGI and 50 largest economies rankings. The more country complies with ESG disclosure criteria, the better position in rankings is. Incorporation of ESG criteria is an important evolutionary step in economic development of the country. It allows increasing position of the country in 50 largest economies and SDGI ranking. Thus, ESG disclosure regulation is vital for the development of the country in the modern world. TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a procedure for diagnostics and predicting the personnel sustainability of enterprises due to the construction of the forecast model, which is based on an analysis of the persons sustainability indicators and predictors of release.
Abstract: Ensuring Ukrainian enterprises’ personnel sustainability is a real challenge because the structural transformation of the labor market in the context of globalization of the world economy leads to increased competition for qualified personnel. In the Ukrainian labor market, the tendency to imbalance professional and qualification structure is the result of the progress of migration, urbanization, and demographic crisis. Thus, the study aims to develop a procedure for diagnostics and predicting the personnel sustainability of the enterprises due to the construction of the forecast model. The formation of “Predictable Model of the Personnel Sustainability” (“PMPS”), which is based on an analysis of the personnel sustainability indicators and predictors of release, was proposed. Approbation was carried out on the example of the Ukrainian enterprises of a recreational complex. The results of the personnel sustainability forecasting showed that the extent of the violation of the personnel sustainability is significant because the high projected performance of the indicators of fluctuation movement of the personnel and employee turnover changes, the structural components associated with wages indicate its further growth, and trends in the predictors of the violation of sustainability signal the possible dismissal of the personnel in the future.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the direct and indirect effect of transformational and transactional leadership on SMEs' performance and found that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on SME's innovation and performance directly and indirectly.
Abstract: Leadership has an important role in achieving the SMEs’ innovation and performance. One of the great concepts of leadership styles is the Burns’ (1978) concept, which divides leadership into two: transformational and transactional. This study analyzed the direct and indirect effect of transformational and transactional leadership on SMEs’ performance. This was conducted in seven regencies/cities in East Java Province, with 165 SMEs on superior indigenous food and beverage. The main research data were obtained by distributing the questionnaires. It uses path analysis to determine the direct and indirect effect using the LISREL software. The results showed that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on SMEs’ innovation and performance directly and indirectly. Transactional leadership has a direct positive and insignificant effect on SMEs’ innovation and performance. However, transactional leadership was found to have an indirect positive and significant effect on SMEs’ performance. In conclusion, transformational leadership is more important for improving SMEs’ performance in Indonesia than transactional. These results provide a practical contribution for SMEs’ leaders to improve transformational leadership, which is oriented towards charisma, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the influence of fairness perceptions of the income tax system on compliance behavior of taxpayers in Yemen and found that general system fairness, preferred tax rate, exchange with the government, and the extent of self-interest are significantly related to income tax compliance, while special provisions do not affect compliance decisions.
Abstract: People’s perceptions of a fair tax administration system have garnered growing interest as a decisive ingredient that can install compliance behavior among taxpayers. The tax that taxpayers wish to evade is determined by their perceptions of the various robust dimensions of fairness (i.e., general fairness, preferred tax rate structure, exchange with the government, special provisions, and self-interest). Such an important matter, like tax fairness, has been overlooked in the extant literature, especially in the Middle East context, although tax administrations still suffer from low and unsatisfactory rates of compliance. This paper aims to empirically examine the influence of fairness perceptions of the income tax system on compliance behavior of taxpayers in Yemen. The study used a survey questionnaire administered to 400 individual taxpayers in Hadhramout, one of the most prosperous business regions in Yemen. Based on the PLS-SEM analysis tool, the study found that general system fairness, preferred tax rate, exchange with the government, and the extent of self-interest are significantly related to income tax compliance, while special provisions do not affect compliance decisions. The results of the study can alert the tax authority and policymakers to consider the non-pecuniary factors, other than the measures of the coercion. Establishing a fair tax system is probably one of the most successful approaches to boost compliance among taxpayers, thus yielding more tax revenue and diminishing the administrative cost for the tax authority. TL;DR: Hossain et al. as mentioned in this paper investigated the extent to which individual and contextual factors determine the entrepreneurial intention in Bangladesh and found that individual factors have more influence on entrepreneurial intentions than contextual variables.
Abstract: This study has investigated the extent to which individual and contextual factors determine the entrepreneurial intention in Bangladesh. Also, this study examined the comparative impact of both individual and contextual factors on entrepreneurial intentions. Sample data (n = 270) have been collected through using a survey questionnaire from a renowned public university of Bangladesh. This study has applied both correlation analysis and hierarchical regression for testing the hypotheses. Total eight hypotheses are tested to examine the influence of seven independent variables on entrepreneurial intentions, in which six factors have been found as significant predictors of entrepreneurial intentions. The correlation analysis revealed that risk-taking, locus of control, self-efficacy, and job autonomy are significantly correlated with entrepreneurial intention at 5% significance level. The regression result indicated that individual factors such as risk-taking, locus of control, self-efficacy, and job autonomy and contextual factors such as social networks and university educational program have positive effect on entrepreneurial intention. The study also found out that individual factors have more influence on entrepreneurial intentions than contextual variables. This paper also offers some implications for academic scholars. TL;DR: Płonka et al. as mentioned in this paper identified the opinions and attitudes of the students from Poland and Ukraine in respect to the broadly understood issues of the old age security, as well as to recognize the prospective differences in this field between the researched populations.
Abstract: Digitalization and technological advancement, referred to as the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), results not only in technological innovation but also in the changes in society and public awareness. One such tendency is the demographic aging, which implicates two concerns: the instability of the public pension systems and the social awareness related with the risk of major reduction of benefits in contrast to the expectations and the need for the additional private pension security. The research has aimed to identify the opinions and attitudes of the students from Poland and Ukraine in respect to the broadly understood issues of the old age security, as well as to recognize the prospective differences in this field between the researched populations. The relevant research was conducted using the PAPI method in the years 2018–2019. Within the framework of the research, nine specific hypotheses were presented concerning the attitudes towards the selected aspects of the pension schemes and old-age security. The results were compiled in the form of the semantic differential, and the Mann-Whitney U test was utilized to verify the significance of the differences in the distribution of the answers given by the students. Those served as the basis for formulating the conclusions regarding similarities and differences in the opinions expressed by young people studied populations. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a two-round survey using the Delphi method among experts (56 at the first stage and 42 at the second stage) representing various tourism directions for Ukraine's tourism sector up to 2030, six strategic development priorities were formed.
Abstract: Nowadays, it is imperative to use forecasting technologies that are most likely to predict the development of economic systems. Foresight technologies based on a combination of strategic analysis and forecasting of key indicators provide a high level of probability of achieving certain results and contribute to shaping conditions for their achievement. Among economic systems, tourism sector is the most vulnerable to the negative impact of the global pandemic. In 2020, its revenues fell by 70%, leading to an unprecedented crisis. Accordingly, questions arise about the Ukrainian tourism sector’s ability to use the crisis as a prerequisite for recovery and growth.Based on the results of a two-round survey using the Delphi method among experts (56 at the first stage and 42 at the second) representing various tourism directions for Ukraine’s tourism sector up to 2030, six strategic development priorities were formed. Key indicators were identified, such as contribution to GDP (7-8%), place in the global tourism competitiveness rating (60-70th position among 140 countries), and average annual growth rate of international arrivals (5-10%). It has been determined that in case of the end of the world pandemic, the Ukrainian tourism sector can achieve the indicators of “pre-crisis” functioning in 1-3 years. The proposed architectonics of the foresight platform in the context of digitalization of network communications will ensure the adoption of management decisions to develop Ukraine’s tourism sector in the domestic and international markets. It will strengthen its position, image, and strategic sustainability in the markets for tourist services.
