TLDR
In this article, the effect of duality transformations on the geometries of a subclass of two-dimensional sigma-models was investigated, and it was shown that duality preserves quantum conformal invariance at order [α′]0, where α′ is the string tension parameter, provided the change induced by duality is accompanied by a shift in the dilaton field.

Target space duality in string theory

TL;DR: In this paper, target space duality and discrete symmetries in string theory are reviewed in different settings, and the authors present a generalization of the duality to string theory.

Path-integral derivation of quantum duality in nonlinear sigma-models

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that a previously derived shift in the dilaton field, which augments the classical effects of duality transformation on the geometry of a nonlinear sigma-model if conformal invariance is to be preserved at the one-loop level, can be extended without change to the case of sigma models with Wess-Zumino-Witten term (torsion) before and after duality.

Double Field Theory

TL;DR: In this article, a theory of massless fields on the doubled torus was constructed, which includes usual and dual diffeomorphisms, together with a T-duality acting on fields that have explicit dependence on the torus coordinates and the dual coordinates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Flux Compactification

TL;DR: A survey of the landscape of string and M theory vacua can be found in this article, where the authors discuss the potential for testable consequences of this picture, such as observable effects of moduli, constraints on early cosmology, and predictions for the scale of supersymmetry breaking.

A geometry for non-geometric string backgrounds

TL;DR: In this article, a T-fold background with a local $n$-torus fibration and T-duality transition functions in O(n,n:\Z) space is formulated in an enlarged space with a $T^{2n}$ fibration which is geometric, with spacetime emerging locally from a choice of a Ωn$ submanifold of each fiber, so that it is embedded in the enlarged space.

Strings in background fields

TL;DR: In this article, the propagation of strings in background fields, including the effects of metric, antisymmetric tensor, and dilaton expectation values, as well as gauge field backgrounds in the case of heterotic strings, is studied.

Hyperkahler Metrics and Supersymmetry

TL;DR: In this paper, two constructions of hyperkahler manifolds, one based on a Legendre transform and one on a sympletic quotient, are described, which can be described geometrically.

Twisted multiplets and new supersymmetric non-linear σ-models☆☆☆★

TL;DR: In this paper, the twisted chiral multiplet is used to formulate supersymmetric nonlinear σ-models with N = 2,4 extended supersymmetry, which fall outside the classification given by Alvarez-Gaume and Freedman.

Effective Field Theory from Quantized Strings

TL;DR: The problem of deriving the gravitational part of Γ is reduced to that of establishing the effective action for a generalized σ-model on a curved two-dimensional background and subsequent integration over two-metrics.

Geometrical structure and ultraviolet finiteness in the supersymmetric σ-model

TL;DR: In this paper, a complete geometrical classification of supersymmetric σ-models is given, and it is shown that a particular class of these models is on-shell ultraviolet finite to all orders in perturbation theory.
