In this article, the authors apply the material developed in the Volume One to various boundary value problems (reflection and refraction at plane surfaces, composite media, waveguides and resonators).
Abstract
This work, part of a two-volume set, applies the material developed in the Volume One to various boundary value problems (reflection and refraction at plane surfaces, composite media, waveguides and resonators). The text also covers topics such as perturbation and variational methods.

Confined and interface acoustic phonons in a quantum wire

TL;DR: In this paper, a cylindrical quantum wire embedded in another material is analyzed based on the elastic continuum model by means of the potential theory, and the density of confined phonon states becomes, as a result, a staircaselike structure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermal conductance of single-walled carbon nanotube embedded in an elastic half-space

TL;DR: In this paper, the ballistic thermal conductance of single-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) embedded in an elastic half-space is calculated. But the conductance is very different from the conductances of freestanding CNT due to change in phonon velocity and maximum cutoff frequency depending on the temperature.
Book ChapterDOI

Analytic Diffraction Corrections to Ultrasonic Scattering Measurements

TL;DR: In this article, a set of approximate corrections for these effects for the cases of angle beam inspection through planar, spherically curved or cylindrically curved surfaces is presented for ultrasonic immersion measurements, where the frequency and angular dependences of the scattering amplitude are convolved with those of the transmitting and receiving transducers and the propagation through the liquid-solid and solid-liquid interfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI

Propagation of acoustic surface waves in periodic structures

Yurii V Gulyaev, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1989 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation of acoustic surface waves (ASW) in periodic structures is discussed, and the main types of ASW are discussed: Rayleigh waves, Gulyaev?Bleustein waves, Love waves.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scattering of elastic waves by a crack in a isotropic plate

TL;DR: In this article, a T-matrix and boundary element hybrid method was used to study the scattering of elastic waves by a crack in a plate and a fictitious surface was added to the crack to separate the infinite plate into two semi-infinite plates.

Physical properties of crystals

John F. Nye
TL;DR: In this paper, the physical properties of crystals systematically in tensor notation are presented, presenting tensor properties in terms of their common mathematical basis and the thermodynamic relations between them.

Field theory of guided waves

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a model for waveguide decomposition in terms of waveguide discontinuities and waveguides and cavities, and apply it to artificial dielectrics.
