TLDR
In this paper, an empirically derived relationship between the chemical composition of a carbonate in the CaCO3-(Ca, Mg)(CO3)2-FeCO3 system and the function 103 In α at 100°C is 103 ∆ α = 8.94XCaCO3 + 9.29XMgCO3+ 8.77XFeCo3 where Xi is the mole percent of component i in the carbonate.

Controls on the formation of stratabound dolostone bodies, Hammam Faraun Fault block, Gulf of Suez

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered differential dolomitization of the Eocene Thebes Formation on the Hammam Faraun Fault block, Gulf of Suez, which has undergone a simple history of burial and exhumation as a result of rifting.
Journal ArticleDOI

Root-related rhodochrosite and concretionary siderite formation in oxygen-deficient conditions induced by a ground-water table rise

TL;DR: In this paper, siderite concretions in terrestrial silts were analyzed to understand their formation and to characterize the sedimentary and diagenetic conditions favouring their growth, showing how a change in sedimentary conditions can have a profound impact on the early-diagenetic environment and carbonate authigenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of spatial variations in reaction progress during regional metamorphism of micaceous carbonate rocks, Northern new England

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the m-scale uniformity in K s (6) and δ 18 O Cal is explained by homogenization of a CO2 and H 2 O fluid caused by the combined effects of intergranular diffusion and hydrodynamic dispersion.

Mingling of Immiscible Dolomite Carbonatite and Trachyte in Tuffs from the Massif Central, France

TL;DR: A pyroclastic tuff from the Velay volcanic province in the French Massif Central contains blocks up to 30 cm long of local basement rocks, lava clasts, coarse-grained cumulates and pyro clastic fragments, with more or less diffuse boundaries with the host tuff, which probably represent more consolidated parts of the tuff as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stable Isotope and Petrologic Evidence for the Origin of Regional Marble-Hosted Magnetite Deposits and the Zinc Deposits at Franklin and Sterling Hill, New Jersey Highlands, United States

TL;DR: In the New Jersey Highlands, a back-arc basin developed on the eastern margin of Laurentia between 1.3 and 1.25 Ga is known to contain magnetite deposits as discussed by the authors.

Isotopic standards for carbon and oxygen and correction factors for mass-spectrometric analysis of carbon dioxide

TL;DR: In this paper, Niee's and Solenhofen standards were compared to the Chicago PDB standard for carbon and oxygen isotope ratios, and the correction factors for instrumental effects and for the nature of the mass spectra were derived.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the Isotopic Chemistry of Carbonates and a Paleotemperature Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, the temperature variation of the fractionation of oxygen in exchange reactions between dissolved carbonate and water and between calcite and water was calculated on theoretical grounds, and checked experimentally.
Journal ArticleDOI

The use of bromine pentafluoride in the extraction of oxygen from oxides and silicates for isotopic analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, a technique was developed in which bromine pentafluoride was used as a reagent for quantitative liberation of oxygen from oxides and silicates, and the results of isotopic analyses were compared with measurements made in other laboratories by other procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurement of O18O16 ratios of total oxygen of carbonates

TL;DR: The commonly used phosphoric acid procedure for the determination of oxygen isotope abundances in carbonates involves a large kinetic isotope effect as mentioned in this paper, which leads to an overestimate of the dolomite-calcite oxygon isotope fractionation by 0.8 per mil.
