Issues With Multiaxial Fatigue Assessment in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code
TL;DR: In this article, the applicability of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code procedures to calculate fatigue crack initiation under multiaxial stresses and/or strains, in particular when caused by non-proportional loads that lead the principal directions at the critical point to vary with time, e.g. due to out-of-phase bending and torsion loads induced by independent sources.

Using Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis to Determine Bolt Stresses Due to Thermal Cyclic Loading
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used CFD to determine the stress in the bolts on a coke gasifier inlet flange using current state-of-the-art practices.
A methodology to optimize the design of bolted joints
TL;DR: A methodology to optimize the design of bolted joints under traction and shear loading in horizontal plates and pressure vessels and shows a cost of the joint-safety factor/mass- safety factor comparison which provide optimal options (curves) for the customer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Study on Effect of Gasket Stress Distribution on Bolted Flanged Connections
Lin Liu,Suo Long Zhang +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the leakage of bolted flanged connections was predicted based on gasket stress distribution, and the results were investigated and compared with the experimental results by finite element method (FEM).
Journal ArticleDOI
The Study of Fatigue Crack Growth of 304SS with the Influence of Loading Frequency and Temperature
Jien Jong Chen,Yan Shin Shih +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the combined effect of loading frequency and temperature on fatigue crack growth rate of 304SS was proposed using the derived dimensionless functions of yielding stresses and Young’s modulus.

Where the Engineers Are
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of globalization on the engineering profession has been studied, and the authors have sought to assess the comparative engineering education of the United States and its major new competitors, India and China; identify the sources of current U.S. trend towards outsourcing; and learn what the United states can do to keep its economic edge.
