Quadruple helix as a network of relationships: creating value within a Swedish regional innovation system

TL;DR: It is concluded that the fourth helix should be viewed as a whole – an arena where triple helix actors in different value adding relationships take on different roles – where they create value to civil society, for example, new jobs or products for improved elderly care.
Journal ArticleDOI

Macro, Meso and Micro Perspectives of Technology Transfer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a further understanding of macro, meso and micro perspectives of technology transfer and to provide an agenda for further research that blends these multi-level perspectives.
Journal ArticleDOI

Co-shaping the future in Quadruple Helix innovation systems: Uncovering public preferences toward participatory research and innovation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify desirable and productive forms of interaction between the scientific community and the public and propose a layperson typology intended to help design participatory processes that facilitate such exchanges and include the differences in opinions between men and women.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scientific effects of Triple Helix interactions among research institutes, industries and universities

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated whether the scientific performance of research institutes is influenced by their Triple Helix (TH) interactions with industries or/and universities by means of the TH theoretical framework and showed that their bilateral and trilateral interactions not only directly and significantly improved the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) scientific performance but also moderately enhanced the effects of research investments on that performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Favourable social innovation ecosystem(s)? – An explorative approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors question the purely business-oriented, technology-centred use of the term "innovation" and argue that research on social innovation has gained momentum in recent years.

The dynamics of innovation: from national systems and "Mode" 2 to a triple helix of university-industry-government relations.

TL;DR: In this article, the Triple Helix of university-industry-government relations is compared with alternative models for explaining the current research system in its social contexts, and the authors suggest that university research may function increasingly as a locus in the "laboratory" of knowledge-intensive network transitions.

The dynamics of innovation: from National Systems and

TL;DR: In this paper, the Triple Helix of university-industry-government relations is compared with alternative models for explaining the current research system in its social contexts, where the institutional layer can be considered as the retention mechanism of a developing system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Knowledge bases and Regional Innovation Systems: Comparing Nordic Clusters.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors distinguish between two types of knowledge base: analytical and synthetic, and argue that in terms of innovation policy the regional level often provides a grounded approach embedded in networks of actors acknowledging the importance of the knowledge base of an industry.
Journal ArticleDOI

The case for regional development intervention: place-based versus place-neutral approaches*

TL;DR: In this article, the debates regarding place-neutral versus place-based policies for economic development are examined in the context of how development policy thinking on the part of both scholars and international organizations has evolved over several decades, and the cases of the developing world and the European Union are used as examples of how in this changing context development intervention should increasingly focus on efficiency and social inclusion at the expense of an emphasis on territorial convergence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Constructing Regional advantage: Platform Policies Based on Related Variety and Differentiated Knowledge Bases

TL;DR: In this article, a regional innovation policy model based on the idea of constructing regional advantage is presented, which brings together concepts like related variety, knowledge bases and policy platforms, and the implications of this are traced for evolving platform policies that facilitate economic development within and between regions in action lines appropriate to incorporate the basic principles behind related variety and differentiated knowledge bases.
