In this paper, a synthesis of highly luminescent (CdSe)ZnS composite quantum dots with CdSe cores ranging in diameter from 23 to 55 A was reported.Abstract:
We report a synthesis of highly luminescent (CdSe)ZnS composite quantum dots with CdSe cores ranging in diameter from 23 to 55 A. The narrow photoluminescence (fwhm ≤ 40 nm) from these composite dots spans most of the visible spectrum from blue through red with quantum yields of 30−50% at room temperature. We characterize these materials using a range of optical and structural techniques. Optical absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopies probe the effect of ZnS passivation on the electronic structure of the dots. We use a combination of wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, small and wide angle X-ray scattering, and transmission electron microscopy to analyze the composite dots and determine their chemical composition, average size, size distribution, shape, and internal structure. Using a simple effective mass theory, we model the energy shift for the first excited state for (CdSe)ZnS and (CdSe)CdS dots with varying shell thickness. Finally, we characterize the...read more

Photoinduced Phase Transfer of Luminescent Quantum Dots to Polar and Aqueous Media
Goutam Palui,Tommaso Avellini,Naiqian Zhan,Feng Pan,David Gray,Igor V. Alabugin,Hedi Mattoussi +6 more
TL;DR: UV-irradiation (λ < 400 nm) promotes the in situ ligand exchange on hydrophobic CdSe QDs with lipoic acid (LA)-based ligands and their facile QD transfer to polar solvents and to buffer media, which significantly simplifies the preparation and purification of QD with sensitive functionalities.

Luminescence Properties of CdSe Quantum Dots: Role of Crystal Structure and Surface Composition
TL;DR: In this article, the crystal-structure-dependent luminescence properties of cadmium selenide quantum dots (QDs) in cubic zincblende and hexagonal wurtzite (Wz-CdSe) phases have been investigated by maintaining their optical band gaps as well as the relative ratios of capping ligands the same.

Improved performance of CuInS2 quantum dot-sensitized solar cells based on a multilayered architecture.
TL;DR: The photovoltaic performance, in terms of the short-circuit current density (JSC), open-circuits voltage (VOC), fill factor (FF), and power conversion efficiency (PCE), was significantly improved and both JSC and VOC were improved in CuInS2-based QDSSCs in the presence of interfacial buffer layers.
