In this paper, a synthesis of highly luminescent (CdSe)ZnS composite quantum dots with CdSe cores ranging in diameter from 23 to 55 A was reported.
Abstract
We report a synthesis of highly luminescent (CdSe)ZnS composite quantum dots with CdSe cores ranging in diameter from 23 to 55 A. The narrow photoluminescence (fwhm ≤ 40 nm) from these composite dots spans most of the visible spectrum from blue through red with quantum yields of 30−50% at room temperature. We characterize these materials using a range of optical and structural techniques. Optical absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopies probe the effect of ZnS passivation on the electronic structure of the dots. We use a combination of wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, small and wide angle X-ray scattering, and transmission electron microscopy to analyze the composite dots and determine their chemical composition, average size, size distribution, shape, and internal structure. Using a simple effective mass theory, we model the energy shift for the first excited state for (CdSe)ZnS and (CdSe)CdS dots with varying shell thickness. Finally, we characterize the...

Preparation of Quantum Dot−Biotin Conjugates and Their Use in Immunochromatography Assays

TL;DR: This assay methodology was used to detect as little as 10 ng/mL staphylococcal enterotoxin type-B using tetranitromethane-modified NeutrAvidin, used to link the biotinylated QDs to the immune complexes and facilitate their release at basic pH for subsequent quantification.

Epitaxial Growth of ZSM-5@Silicalite-1: A Core–Shell Zeolite Designed with Passivated Surface Acidity

TL;DR: The synthesis of ZSM-5@silicalite-1 offers a pathway for tailoring the physicochemical properties of MFI-type materials, notably in the area of catalysis, where surface passivation can enhance product selectivity without sacrificing catalyst activity.

Organic Surfactant-Controlled Composition of the Surfaces of CdSe Quantum Dots

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that the ratio of Cd to Se (Cd/Se) within colloidal CdSe quantum dots (QDs) synthesized with 90% trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) as the coordinating solvent increases from 1.2:1 for QDs with radius R ≥ 3.3 nm to 6.9 nm, as measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy.

Quantum Dots for LED Downconversion in Display Applications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarize QD properties and advantages in LED backlit LCDs relative to other competitive downconversion materials, as well as compare and contrast the three primary geometries that will likely be explored during the pursuit of a potentially dominant design.

Synthesis and characterization of nearly monodisperse CdE (E = sulfur, selenium, tellurium) semiconductor nanocrystallites

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple route to the production of high-quality CdE (E=S, Se, Te) semiconductor nanocrystallites is presented, based on pyrolysis of organometallic reagents by injection into a hot coordinating solvent.
