Protective effects of methanol extracts from Cladonia rangiformis and Umbilicaria vellea against known mutagens sodium azide and 9-aminoacridine

TL;DR: All methanol extracts investigated in the present study can be considered genotoxically safe because they do not have mutagenic activity at the tested concentrations and have significant antimutagenic activities against NaN3 mutagenicity in Z. mays Root Tip Mitotic Index assay system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction of chromosome number in root tip cells of medicago

TL;DR: Critical observations on cells at different divisional stages revealed the occurrence of meiosis-like mitotic divisions, resulting in a reduction of chromosome number, in plants of alfalfa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pollen morphology and biometry in Androcymbium (Colchicaceae)

Joan Martín, +2 more
- 01 Oct 1993 -
TL;DR: The pollen of 34 individuals representing the 10 species and subspecies of thesection Erythrostictus (Schlecht.) Bentham and 3 species of the section Cymbanthes Bentham in the genus Androcymbium Willdenow was examined with scanning electron microscopy to investigate the degree of morphologic differentiation within and between these two sections of the genus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Karyotype analyses and studies on the nuclear DNA content in 30 genotypes of potato (Solanum tuberosum) L.

TL;DR: Variations in genomic structure and nuclear DNA content of the 48‐chromosome genotypes suggest a genetic drift during microevolution, leading to the development of new cultivars.
Journal ArticleDOI

Laboratory Techniques for Determining Ploidy in Plants

TL;DR: Several techniques are presented in order to allow the student to select the technique that is most appro- priate for a given species, and not all of the mentioned techniques may be successful for determining plant ploids of every crop.
