In this article, the authors discuss electron-ion collisions from an experimental viewpoint, with an emphasis on recent experiments and new techniques, such as ion traps and sequential mass spectrometry.Abstract:
The topic of electron-ion collisions is discussed, primarily from the experimental viewpoint, with an emphasis on recent experiments and new techniques. The methods used in crossed-beam experiments, ion traps and sequential mass spectrometry are described with their application to the measurement of cross sections for electron impact ionization and excitation of positive ions, detachment from negative ions and dissociation of simple molecular ions.read more

Correlations of two excited electrons
TL;DR: In this article, the symmetry of the Schrodinger equation and its eigenfunctions are viewed and found to be important for the mechanics of the electron pair and radial correlations are more significant for the pair than the angular correlations.

Electron impact ionization cross sections and rates for highly ionized atoms.

Crossed beam measurement of absolute cross sections: an alternative method and its application to the electron impact ionisation of He+
TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental method for the cross-beam measurement of absolute cross sections is presented, which essentially consists in sweeping one of the beams across the other in a linear'see-saw' motion.

An empirical formula for the electron-impact ionization cross-section
TL;DR: In this article, an empirical formula with three free parameters is given for the representation of cross-sections for single ionization of atoms and ions from the ground state by electron-impact, and almost all experimental results can be approximated by this formula within 10% over the whole energy range between threshold and 10 keV.

The polarization of atomic line radiation excited by electron impact
TL;DR: In this article, a theory of the probability of a polarized photon being emitted by the complete system of atom + electron was developed, which is based on the calculation of the cross-sections QM for excitation of states of definite component of angular momentum along the direction of the electron beam.
