Thermoacclimatory response of nucleic acid and protein content of carp muscle tissue: influence of growth rate and relationship to glycine uptake by scales
TL;DR: RNA concentration in carp (Cyprinus carpio) white muscle tissue increased with higher growth rate for all acclimation temperatures, while DNA, protein content, and tissue hydration were unaffected, and Muscle RNA/DNA ratios and the rate of glycine uptake by scales were highly correlated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent declines in mercury concentration in a freshwater fishery: isolating the effects of de-acidification and decreased atmospheric mercury deposition in Little Rock Lake
Thomas R. Hrabik,Carl J. Watras +1 more
TL;DR: Results are consistent with the hypothesis that depositional inputs of SO4 and Hg(II) co-mediate the biosynthesis of methyl mercury and thereby co-limit bioaccumulation and suggest that modest changes in acid rain or mercury deposition can significantly affect mercury bioaccUMulation over short-time scales.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative population dynamics of four fiddler crabs (Ocypodidae, genus Uca) from a North Brazilian mangrove ecosystem
TL;DR: Fiddler crabs studied in the Caete man- grove estuary, North Brazil, had a clear spawning peak towards the end of the rainy season and temporal sep- aration of reproduction may also promote coexistence of the 2 species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demographic attributes of yellow-phase American eels (Anguilla rostrata) in the Hudson River estuary
Wendy E Morrison,David H. Secor +1 more
TL;DR: Yellow-phase American eel length and age structure, growth, dispersal, nematode infestation rates, loss rate (natural mortality and emigration), and production were measured at six sites throughout the tidal portion of the Hudson River.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cyclic dynamics of a yellow perch (Perca flavescens) population in an oligotrophic lake: evidence for the role of intraspecific interactions
TL;DR: Cyclic dynamics in a population of yellow perch in oligotrophic Crystal Lake shows that young-of-the-year (YOY) perch were abundant primarily in years when reproductively mature fish were in the lake, suggesting that the repeated oscillations are driven predominant by external factors.
