Condition-based maintenance: tools and decision making

TLDR
In this paper, a wide variety of techniques commonly used to monitor the condition of mechanical systems are surveyed, and some of the decision models designed to address this type of inspection problem are discussed.
Abstract
The primary objective of equipment maintenance programmes is to preserve system functions in a cost‐effective manner. Surveys a wide variety of techniques commonly used to monitor the condition of mechanical systems. Reviews some of the decision models designed to address this type of inspection problem; concludes with some suggestions for future research directions in this type of decision problem.

Adding interpretability to predictive maintenance by machine learning on sensor data

TL;DR: A supervised machine learning approach is implemented, with the goal of both prediction and diagnosis of machinery breakdowns, emphasizing the latter, using an XGBoost model trained on a combination of sensor and report data, and enriches the model with Shapley values for diagnostic insights.

Optimization of drill bit replacement time in open-cast coal mines

TL;DR: A life data analysis of drill bits is presented to fit a statistical distribution using failure records to estimate the drill bit replacement time using the evolutionary algorithm and shows that the proposed approach can be used to assist with designing a drilling bit replacement schedule and minimize costs in open-cast coal mines.

Condition-based maintenance for complex systems : coordinating maintenance and logistics planning for the process industries

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on obtaining insights into the optimal CBM policy structure for systems subject to various types of dependencies, thereby focusing on decisions such as when to inspect, when to maintain, adding a redundant component, and when to order spares.
