Four compounds consisting of molecular loops formed from two quadruply bonded Mo2(DAniF)2 (DAniF = N,N'-di-p-anisylformamidinate) units linked by two dicarboxylate anions have been prepared in high purity and essentially quantitative yields. These compounds have been characterized by crystallography and NMR spectroscopy and display electrochemical behavior dependent on the nature of the dicarboxylate anion. However, the electronic communication between the two Mo2(4+) units is not strong. As denoted by the dicarboxylate linkers, the compounds are malonate, 1, 1,4-phenylendiacetate, 2, homophthalate, 3, and trans-cyclopentane-1,2-dicarboxylate, 4.read more

Supramolecular coordination: self-assembly of finite two- and three-dimensional ensembles.
TL;DR: In the early 1960s, the discovery of crown ethers and spherands by Pedersen, Lehn, and Cram3 led to the realization that small, complementary molecules can be made to recognize each other through non-covalent interactions such as hydrogen-bonding, charge-charge, donor-acceptor, π-π, van der Waals, hydrophilic and hydrophobic interactions to achieve these highly complex and often symmetrical architectures as mentioned in this paper.

Ligand-Directed Molecular Architectures: Self-Assembly of Two-Dimensional Rectangular Metallacycles and Three-Dimensional Trigonal or Tetragonal Prisms
TL;DR: Three angular ditopic ligands (1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)-4,6-dimethylbenzene L(1), 1,3/2, and 1,4/2 are shape-specific designed ligands, representing an alternative strategy to assembling a trigonal prism, and three structures assembled from three linearly coordinated Ag(+) or Cu(+) ions and two tripodal ligands are presented.

Metal-directed self-assembly of two- and three-dimensional synthetic receptors
TL;DR: In this paper, the transition metal mediated self-assembly of two-and three-dimensional synthetic receptors has been studied in the context of macrocyclization under kinetic control, and the selfassembly strategy offers quite efficient methods for constructing macrocycles under thermodynamic control.
