TLDR
An overview of conceptual issues relevant to treating adolescents suspected of drug-related problems, including an overview of factors believed to contribute to a substance use disorder are provided.Abstract:
Research on the development and efficacy of drug abuse treatment for adolescents has made great strides recently. Several distinct models have been studied, and these approaches range from brief interventions to intensive treatments. This paper has three primary aims: to provide an overview of conceptual issues relevant to treating adolescents suspected of drug-related problems, including an overview of factors believed to contribute to a substance use disorder, to review the empirical treatment outcome literature, and to identify areas of need and promising directions for future research.read more

Jason P. Connor,Daniel Stjepanović,Bernard Le Foll,Bernard Le Foll,Eva Hoch,Alan J. Budney,Wayne Hall +6 more
TL;DR: Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is an under-appreciated risk of using cannabis that affects about 10% of the 193 million users worldwide as mentioned in this paper, which accounts for a substantial proportion of persons seeking treatment for drug use disorders owing to the high global prevalence of cannabis use.

An update on cannabis use disorder with comment on the impact of policy related to therapeutic and recreational cannabis use.
TL;DR: Current scientific data and clinical observation strongly support the contention that cannabis use, like the use of other substances such as alcohol, opioids, stimulants, and tobacco, can develop into a use disorder (addiction) with important clinical consequences.

Madeline H. Meier,Avshalom Caspi,Antony Ambler,Antony Ambler,Hona Lee Harrington,Renate Houts,Richard S.E. Keefe,Kay McDonald,Aimee L. Ward,Richie Poulton,Terrie E. Moffitt +10 more
TL;DR: Persistent cannabis use was associated with neuropsychological decline broadly across domains of functioning, even after controlling for years of education and cessation of cannabis use, suggestive of a neurotoxic effect of cannabis on the adolescent brain.

TL;DR: In this article, a meta-analysis of 207 universal school-based drug prevention programs that compared the self-reported drug use of treatment to control or comparison youth was performed, and programs were classified into Interactive and Non-Interactive groups based on a combination of content and delivery method.
