An initial qualitative study performed to develop iSTEP for the HIV-positive population, including assessment of PA barriers and facilitators, will assist the development of novel PA interventions focused on treating the epidemic of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders.Abstract:
A randomized controlled trial is being conducted in the United States to test the efficacy of a personalized interactive mobile health intervention (iSTEP) designed to increase physical activity (PA) and improve neurocognitive functioning among HIV-positive persons. This article describes an initial qualitative study performed to develop iSTEP for the HIV-positive population, including assessment of PA barriers and facilitators. Two focus groups, with 9 and 12 unique HIV-positive individuals, respectively, were administered to evaluate barriers limiting PA and potential iSTEP content created to encourage greater PA. Group discussions revealed prominent PA barriers, including HIV symptoms (neuropathy, lipoatrophy), antiretroviral medication effects, and fatigue; significant PA facilitators included self-monitoring and family support. Participants provided feedback on strategies to increase PA and expressed positive support for a mobile intervention adapted to personal priorities. These findings will assist the development of novel PA interventions focused on treating the epidemic of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders.read more

Examining the Use of Wireless Physical Activity Monitors Among Adults Living with HIV
TL;DR: A cross-sectional measurement study provided evidence of criterion validity of the Fitbit Zip® to measure steps taken but not distance walked and did not establish construct validity for measuring physical activity, but directions for future research are provided.

Behavioral cardiovascular risk factors in HIV-infected people in France: Diversity of profiles across groups requires an urgent and tailored preventive approach.
TL;DR: Findings highlight the need to focus on all behavioral cardiovascular risk factors and co-occurrence (and not only on tobacco smoking) in HIV-infected people and to implement preventive approach tailored to the specific needs of the different socio-epidemiological groups.

Telehealth Exercise Intervention in Older Adults With HIV: Protocol of a Multisite Randomized Trial.
TL;DR: In this article, a synchronous telehealth exercise intervention in older people with HIV was described, delivered from one medical center to two other centers, where 80 older PWH (≥50 years) on antiretroviral therapy were randomized to exercise or delayed entry control groups.
