Effect of alkali metal cations on adsorption of guar gum onto quartz

TLDR
Assuming hydrogen bonding to be the driving adsorption mechanism, it was proposed that guar gum molecules compete with water for silanol surface sites thus allowing the polymer to more closely approach the quartz surface and interact with the surface groups.

Current understanding of the mechanism of polysaccharide adsorption at the mineral/aqueous solution interface

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that polysaccharides are adsorbed on mineral surfaces through interaction with the adsorption centers on mineral surface that are in the form of hydroxylated metallic sites.

Intrinsic viscosities and Huggins constants of guar gum in alkali metal chloride solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of various salts on the properties of dilute guar gum solutions through viscosity measurements, and found that the intrinsic viscosities of the solution were not significantly affected by the salts up to an electrolyte concentration of 4.1 mol/L.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of background ions in guar gum adsorption on oxide minerals and kaolinite

TL;DR: The main role of background ions in the studied systems was to control the stability of the interfacial water layer on oxide particles whose presence serves as a barrier to guar gum adsorption.

Synthesis of sesbania gum supported dithiocarbamate chelating resin and studies on its adsorption performance for metal ions

TL;DR: Sesbania gum supported dithiocarbamate chelating resins (SGDSA) was prepared in this article, where the epoxy functional groups were introduced into sesbaia gum to produce the sesabaia supported resins and then reacted with triethylenetetramine, and lastly were converted to the respective dithiaocarbamates by reacting with carbon disulphide.

Effect of calcium ions on the adsorption of CMC onto the basal planes of New York talc – A ToF-SIMS study

TL;DR: In this article, the adsorption characteristics of a charged polymeric depressant (CMC) on the basal planes of New York talc using surface specific ToF-SIMS measurements were examined.

Colorimetric Method for Determination of Sugars and Related Substances

TL;DR: In this article, a method was developed to determine submicro amounts of sugars and related substances using a phenol-sulfuric acid reaction, which is useful for the determination of the composition of polysaccharides and their methyl derivatives.

Ion-solvent interaction. Structural aspects of ion-solvent interaction in aqueous solutions: a suggested picture of water structure

TL;DR: In this paper, a new picture of water as consisting of flickering clusters of hydrogen-bonded molecules is presented, in which the cooperative nature of cluster formation and relaxation is related to the partially covalent character which is postulated for the hydrogen bond.
