Enantiomeric Composition of Nicotine in Smokeless Tobacco, Medicinal Products, and Commercial Reagents
TLDR
The enantiomeric composition of nicotine in 18 smokeless tobaccos, 3 strains of tobacco leaf, 8 pharmaceutical products, and 4 commercial reagents was determined and it appears that (R)-(+)-nicotine may be considered one of the five most common alkaloids in tobacco products.About:

TL;DR: The current optimal plasma cotinine cut-point to distinguish smokers from non-smokers in the general US population is 3 ng ml(-1), which is much lower than that established 20 years ago, reflecting less secondhand smoke exposure due to clear air policies and more light or occasional smoking.

Microbiology and biochemistry of nicotine degradation
TL;DR: The catabolic plasmid pAO1 of Arthrobacter nicotinovorans revealed the genetic structure of nicotine catabolism and allowed the assignment of new enzyme activities to specific gene products, which extends the known biochemical steps of this pathway.

TL;DR: Urine concentration of the tobacco alkaloids anabasine and anatabine, nicotine and its metabolites cotinine, and nornicotine in 99 cigarette smokers and 205 smokeless tobacco users was determined to validate abstinence and measure the extent of tobacco use in persons undergoing nicotine replacement therapy.

TL;DR: Optically pure (+-nicotine has been obtained from (+/-)-nicotine using a combination of d-tartaric acid and di-p-toluoyl-l-tartsaric Acid, indicating substantial stereospecificity for nicotine receptors.
