This book was written to be used as an applied thermoscience textbook in a onesemester, college-level, undergraduate engineering course on internal combustion
engines. It provides the material needed for a basic understanding of the operation
of internal combustion engines. Students are assumed to have knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as a prerequisite to get
maximum benefit from the text. This book can also be used for self-study and/or as
a reference book in the field of engineread more

Evaluation of ethanol and isopropanol as additives with diesel fuel in a CRDI diesel engine
TL;DR: In this paper, a common rail direct injection (CRDI) diesel engine with ethanol and isopropanol additive with diesel fuel was tested under three engine speeds (1500, 2000 and 2500 rpm) and four engine loads (BMEP: 3.3, 5.0, 6.6 and 8.3 bar).
Journal ArticleDOI
Silybum marianum L. seed oil: A novel feedstock for biodiesel production
TL;DR: In this article, a dual-step process viz. acid-base catalyzed transesterification was developed to produce the biodiesel, where free fatty acids in SMSO were converted into methyl esters through the esterification of the oil by using hydrochloric acid (HCl) as an acid catalyst with 6:1 methanol to molar ratio at 60°C for 1h, to reduce the acid value of the parent oil to below (2.60 mg KOH/g of oil).
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental investigation of heat losses in a ceramic coated diesel engine
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the heat losses at different engine loads and speeds with and without ceramic-coated diesel engine and showed a reduction in heat losses to the coolant and an increase in exhaust energy at all load levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomass-derived 2,5-dimethylfuran as a promising alternative fuel: An application review on the compression and spark ignition engine
Xuan Phuong Nguyen,Anh Tuan Hoang,Aykut I. Ölçer,Dirk Engel,Van Viet Pham,Swarup Kumar Nayak +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a comprehensive assessment of the 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) synthesis pathway and its application for spark and compression ignition engines, and evaluate the performance characteristics and emission behavior.

Intelligent energy management control of vehicle air conditioning via look-ahead system
Hamid Khayyam,Saeid Nahavandi,Eric Hu,Abbas Z. Kouzani,Ashley Chonka,Jemal H. Abawajy,Vincenzo Marano,Sam Davis +7 more
TL;DR: An intelligent energy management system that is able to reduce the energy consumption of a vehicle with an air conditioning system and improve its efficiency by using the look-ahead system uses information from various information systems to make intelligent decisions.
