Abstract
This book was written to be used as an applied thermoscience textbook in a onesemester, college-level, undergraduate engineering course on internal combustion engines. It provides the material needed for a basic understanding of the operation of internal combustion engines. Students are assumed to have knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as a prerequisite to get maximum benefit from the text. This book can also be used for self-study and/or as a reference book in the field of engine

System and Methods for Stoichiometric Compression Ignition Engine Control

TL;DR: In this article, a diesel engine control system and methods for substantially operating at stoichiometric fuel to air ratios is presented. But the system is not suitable for the handling of large-scale diesel engines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of Fuel Temperature on a Diesel Engine Performance Operating with Biodiesel Blended

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of temperature using 5 % biodiesel blended on diesel engine performance was investigated using one-dimensional numerical analysis of GT-Power software to simulate the commercial four cylinder diesel engine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Feasibility of bioethanol and biobutanol as transportation fuel in spark-ignition engine: a review

TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of using bioethanol and biobutanol as alternative transportation fuels in spark ignition (SI) engine is discussed. But, the use of alcohols in fuel blends leads to negative impacts on the engine durability and lubricating oil properties.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hybrid Thermostat Strategy for Enhancing Fuel Economy of Series Hybrid Intracity Bus

TL;DR: A new control strategy is proposed for a series-type HEV (SHEV) that has its foundation in the thermostat strategy and incorporates merits from the power follower strategy such that it overcomes strategy weaknesses and accomplishes increased efficiency with a practical concept.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comprehensive review on the assessment of fuel additive effects on combustion behavior in CI engine fuelled with diesel biodiesel blends

TL;DR: In this paper, a literature review characterizes the combustion behavior of diesel engines fuelled by diesel, biodiesel and its blends including additives, and it was found that combustion characteristics were improved by introducing additives into diesel and biodiesel blends, while exhaust emissions are also reduced.
