Abstract
This book was written to be used as an applied thermoscience textbook in a onesemester, college-level, undergraduate engineering course on internal combustion engines. It provides the material needed for a basic understanding of the operation of internal combustion engines. Students are assumed to have knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as a prerequisite to get maximum benefit from the text. This book can also be used for self-study and/or as a reference book in the field of engine

Kinetics of methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation and reactor simulation for 'on-board' hydrogen storage

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed kinetic investigation over a wide range of operating conditions including experiments without hydrogen in the feed for the most promising catalyst developed to date is conducted, where reaction kinetics are incorporated into a two-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous model to predict observed longitudinal temperature profiles.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new closed-form thermodynamic model for thermal simulation of spark ignition internal combustion engines

TL;DR: In this article, a closed form model based on finite speed thermodynamics, modified to consider various losses was developed on the Otto cycle and verified on two different spark ignition internal combustion engines and the results of modeling were compared with experimental results as well as FTT model.

Second order sliding mode observer for estimation of SI engine Volumetric Efficiency & Throttle Discharge Coefficient

TL;DR: In this article, a second order sliding mode observer based on super twisting algorithm is proposed to estimate the VOLUME EIGHT and THROW DIScharge coefficient of an automotive engine from a single nonlinear equation of engine inlet manifold pressure dynamics.

An experimental investigation of unmodified DI diesel engine with hydrogen addition

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of hydrogen addition on performance and exhaust gas emission of a single cylinder 406 c.c. diesel engine, where hydrogen was injected through intake manifold and diesel was injected directly inside the combustion chamber.

Generating electricity with a hypocyloidally driven, opposed piston, internal combustion engine

TL;DR: In this article, an electrical generator includes an opposed piston, an internal-combustion engine with a piston and a hypocycloidal drive connected by a rod to the piston, which imposes a sinusoidal period on the linear motion of the piston and connecting rod.
