TLDR
The European Consortium for Astroparticle Theory (EuCAPT) white paper as mentioned in this paper explores upcoming theoretical opportunities and challenges for our field of research with particular emphasis on the possible synergies among different subfields, and the prospects for solving the most fundamental open questions with multi-messenger observations.Abstract:
Astroparticle physics is undergoing a profound transformation, due to a series of extraordinary new results, such as the discovery of high-energy cosmic neutrinos with IceCube, the direct detection of gravitational waves with LIGO and Virgo, and many others. This white paper is the result of a collaborative effort that involved hundreds of theoretical astroparticle physicists and cosmologists, under the coordination of the European Consortium for Astroparticle Theory (EuCAPT). Addressed to the whole astroparticle physics community, it explores upcoming theoretical opportunities and challenges for our field of research, with particular emphasis on the possible synergies among different subfields, and the prospects for solving the most fundamental open questions with multi-messenger observations.read more

The Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger
TL;DR: The first direct detection of gravitational waves and the first observation of a binary black hole merger were reported in this paper, with a false alarm rate estimated to be less than 1 event per 203,000 years, equivalent to a significance greater than 5.1σ.

Bow-Shock Pulsar Wind Nebulae Searches Aided by the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves
Christos Giannakopoulos,Timothy Dolch,Shami Chatterjee,James M. Cordes,T. Joseph W. Lazio,Schuyler Van Dyk,Laura Salo +6 more
TL;DR: The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOW) is a collaboration of researchers who are actively engaged in using North American radio telescopes to detect and study gravitational waves (GWs) via pulsar timing.
Oscillons after Inflation
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that in a class of well-motivated single-field models, inflation is followed by self resonance, leading to copious oscillon generation and a lengthy period of oscillon domination.
A Reverse Shock in GRB 130427A
Tanmoy Laskar,Edo Berger,B. Ashley Zauderer,Raffaella Margutti,Alicia M. Soderberg,Ragnhild Lunnan,Ryan Chornock +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present extensive radio and millimeter observations of the unusually bright GRB-130427A at z = 0.340, spanning 0.67-12 days after the burst.

A response to O. Arandjelovic's critique of "The reproducibility of research and the misinterpretation of p-values"
TL;DR: The main criticism of my piece in this article seems to be that my calculations rely on testing a point null hypothesis, i.e. the hypothesis that the true effect size is zero.

Bubble wall velocity: heavy physics effects
TL;DR: In this article, the dynamics of the relativistic bubble expansion during the first order phase transition focusing on the ultra-relativistic velocities was analyzed and it was shown that fields much heavier than the scale of the phase transition can significantly contribute to the friction and modify the motion of the bubble wall leading to interesting phenomenological consequences.

Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays from Radio Galaxies
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a first systematic approach that takes the individual characteristics of these sources into account, as well as the impact of the extragalactic magnetic-field structures up to a distance of 120 Mpc.

Cosmic ray heating in cool core clusters II: Self-regulation cycle and non-thermal emission
Svenja Jacob,Christoph Pfrommer +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a self-regulated feedback by active galactic nuclei (AGNs) appears to be critical in balancing radiative cooling of the low-entropy gas at the centres of galaxy clusters and in regulating star formation in central galaxies.

Likelihood-free inference with emulator networks
TL;DR: The authors use probabilistic neural emulator networks to learn synthetic likelihoods on simulated data, both local emulators which approximate the likelihood for specific observed data, as well as global ones which are applicable to a range of data.

Probing axions with neutron star inspirals and other stellar processes
TL;DR: In this article, the axion can mediate forces between neutron stars that can be as strong as gravity and their presence can be detected by Advanced LIGO observations of neutron star inspirals.
