Évaluation des impacts de la sécheresse sur le rendement des grandes cultures en France

Abstract
L’objectif de cette etude est d’evaluer l’impact des episodes de secheresse (notamment 1976, 2003, 2005, 2006) sur le rendement des cultures en France. Ces evaluations ont ete faites pour plusieurs especes de grandes cultures, a l’echelle nationale et pour quatre regions. Les statistiques publiees par le Service central des enquetes et etudes statistiques (SCEES) du ministere de l’Agriculture ont ete utilisees. Les droites de regression entre les valeurs de rendement et l’annee culturale ont permis de determiner les progressions des rendements, a partir desquelles ont ete calcules les deficits de production pour les annees de secheresse. Les estimations de deficits a l’echelle nationale confirment l’importance des secheresses de 1976, 2003 et 2006, et, dans une moindre mesure, de 2005. Les cultures d’hiver semees precocement (colza, orge) sont les moins penalisees, puis viennent le ble d’hiver (7 a 18 % de pertes), le mais, souvent irrigue mais pouvant souffrir de restrictions (7 a 23 % de pertes), et enfin le sorgho, qui bien que tolerant, est soumis aux plus fortes contraintes pedoclimatiques. Le tournesol a ete moins affecte que le sorgho par les secheresses recentes. La quantification des pertes pour les quatre regions etudiees montre que le classement des annees les plus deficitaires varie entre regions, 1976 se signalant plus dans le Nord de la France, et 2003 dans le Sud. La methode d’estimation retenue dans cette etude permet donc d’acceder a des evaluations a l’echelle nationale ou regionale. Fondee sur un ecart par rapport a une tendance d’augmentation des rendements, elle conduit toutefois a des chiffres inferieurs a ceux obtenus par l’utilisation des valeurs potentielles de production ou des situations irriguees. De meme, dans les estimations pour une espece et une region donnee, les effets des caracteristiques de l’espece, du milieu et des systemes de culture sont confondus, ce qui peut faire apparaitre des sensibilites d’especes differentes de celles donnees par les etudes ecophysiologiques.
