Evidence for perimeter sites over SmOx-modified Rh(1 0 0) surface by CO chemisorption
TLDR
In this paper, the effect of covering of SmOx blocks some sites on the surface and suppresses adsorption of the typical CO species with an uptake at about 500 K, while a novel desorption peak centered at 260 K emerges in the CO TDS.About:

Controlled Self-Assembly of Sm2O3 Nanoparticles into Nanorods: Simple and Large Scale Synthesis using Bulk Sm2O3 Powders
TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of nanorods consists of two steps of growth: (i) the nanoparticles were formed at relatively low temperature (120-140 °C) by Ostwald ripening and (ii) were followed by oriented attachment of these nanoparticles at higher temperature (160-200 °C).

XPS characterization of SmNbO4 and SmTaO4 precursors prepared by sol-gel method
TL;DR: In this article, structural properties of precursors were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and core-level XPS studies of sol-gel SNO and STO were performed for the first time.

Sm2O3 embedded in nitrogen doped carbon with mosaic structure: An effective catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction
TL;DR: In this article, a novel ORR catalyst (Sm2O3-CN-1100) was proposed to substitute Pt catalysts for energy conversion and storage devices, and the results of this study show that it exhibits good electrocatalytic activity towards ORR, with high stability, strong tolerance to methanol crossover, and a quasi 4-electron transfer process.

Physical and chemical properties of bimetallic surfaces
TL;DR: In this paper, the structural, electronic, chemical and catalytic properties of well-defined bimetallic surfaces are reviewed and a very good correlation is found between the electronic perturbations in a bimetal system and its cohesive energy.

Selective oxidation of methane to synthesis gas using transition metal catalysts
Alexander Thomas Ashcroft,Anthony K. Cheetham,J. S. Foord,Malcolm L. H. Green,Clare P. Grey,A. J. Murrell,Patrick D. F. Vernon +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the partial oxidation of methane to synthesis gas can be carried out at temperatures of only ∼775 °C by using lanthanide ruthenium oxide catalysts.

Core-level binding-energy shifts at surfaces and in solids
TL;DR: A review of core-level binding energy shifts observed in photoelectron spectroscopy can be found in this paper, where the authors focus on shifts since most of the chemical and physical insights provided by core levels are derived not from the core energies themselves but from shifts they exhibit.

Divalent surface state on metallic samarium
G. K. Wertheim,G. Crecelius +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the first atomic layer of trivalent metallic samarium has a large divalent component and the valence transition is attributed to a narrowing of the 5d band which populates the low-lying 4f/sup 6/state.
