Efficacy and Safety of Alirocumab in Japanese Patients With Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia or at High Cardiovascular Risk With Hypercholesterolemia Not Adequately Controlled With Statins – ODYSSEY JAPAN Randomized Controlled Trial –
Tamio Teramoto,Masahiko Kobayashi,Hiromi Tasaki,Hiroaki Yagyu,Toshinori Higashikata,Yoshiharu Takagi,Kiyoko Uno,Marie T. Baccara-Dinet,Atsushi Nohara +8 more
TL;DR: In high-risk Japanese patients with hypercholesterolemia on stable statin therapy, alirocumab markedly reduced LDL-C vs. placebo and was well tolerated over 52 weeks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of cardiovascular complications in patients with and without KCNJ5 gene mutations harboring aldosterone-producing adenomas.
TL;DR: In this study, the KCNJ5-mutated group demonstrated significant postoperative improvements in LVMI, possibly due to strong autonomous aldosterone production, and it is necessary to precisely diagnose younger APA patients possessing a strong capacity for ald testosterone production as such cases may be easily complicated by cardiovascular events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is High Serum LDL/HDL Cholesterol Ratio an Emerging Risk Factor for Sudden Cardiac Death? Findings from the KIHD Study.
TL;DR: A high serum LDL-c/HDL-c ratio was found to be independently associated with an increased risk of SCD, and further research is warranted to understand the mechanistic pathways underlying this association.

Alogliptin ameliorates postprandial lipemia and postprandial endothelial dysfunction in non- diabetic subjects: a preliminary report
Yoko Noda,Toru Miyoshi,Hiroki Oe,Yuko Ohno,Kazufumi Nakamura,Norihisa Toh,Kunihisa Kohno,Hiroshi Morita,Kengo Kusano,Hiroshi Ito +9 more
TL;DR: Alogliptin significantly improved postPRandial endothelial dysfunction and postprandial lipemia, suggesting that alogli leptin may be a promising anti-atherogenic agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol as a predictor for future cardiovascular events in patients with stable coronary artery disease.
Tenjin Nishikura,Shinji Koba,Yuya Yokota,Tsutomu Hirano,Fumiyoshi Tsunoda,Makoto Shoji,Yuji Hamazaki,Hiroshi Suzuki,Yasuki Itoh,Takashi Katagiri,Youichi Kobayashi +10 more
TL;DR: Results confirm that sdLDL-C is a very promising biomarker to predict future cardiovascular events in the secondary prevention of stable CAD.

Carotid-Artery Intima and Media Thickness as a Risk Factor for Myocardial Infarction and Stroke in Older Adults
Daniel H. O'Leary,Joseph F. Polak,Richard A. Kronmal,Teri A. Manolio,Gregory L. Burke,Sidney K. Wolfson +5 more
TL;DR: Increases in the thickness of the intima and media of the carotid artery, as measured noninvasively by ultrasonography, are directly associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in older adults without a history of cardiovascular disease.

ESC/EAS Guidelines for the management of dyslipidaemias: The Task Force for the management of dyslipidaemias of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS)☆☆☆

Durrington,Serap Erdine,Julian Halcox,Richard J. Hobbs,John Kjekshus,Pasquale Perrone Filardi,Gabriele Riccardi,Robert F. Storey,David R. Wood +17 more
TL;DR: These Joint ESC/European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) guidelines on the management of dyslipidaemias are complementary to the guidelines on CVD prevention in clinical practice and address not only physicians but also specialists from lipid clinics or metabolic units who are dealing with dyslipIDAemias that are more difficult to classify and treat.

Serum total cholesterol and long-term coronary heart disease mortality in different cultures. Twenty-five-year follow-up of the seven countries study
W M Verschuren,David R. Jacobs,Bennie P. M. Bloemberg,Daan Kromhout,Alessandro Menotti,Christ Aravanis,Henry Blackburn,Ratko Buzina,Anastasios Dontas,Flaminio Fidanza +9 more
TL;DR: The large difference in absolute CHD mortality rates at a given cholesterol level, however, indicates that other factors, such as diet, that are typical for cultures with a low CHD risk are also important with respect to primary prevention.
