TLDR
In this article, a focus of constant diameter and constant position can be realized if the output beam of the laser is varying in diameter only, and the variation of the output-beam divergence can be compensated by a different optical system.
Abstract
This paper deals with the focusing of multimode radiation. Two special types of resonator are presented: type 1 produces constant beam radius at varying internal thermal lensing and type 2 has, under some conditions, constant beam divergence. It will be shown that by suitable imaging, a focus of constant diameter and constant position can be realized, if the output beam of the laser is varying in diameter only. Variation of the output beam divergence can be compensated by a different optical system.

Influence of Spherical Aberration of the Active Medium on the Performance of

N. Hodgson, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the perfor- mance of both stable and unstable resonators is investigated theoretically by numerically solving the Fresnelintegrals, in-cluding the amplification, the refractive power and the aber- ration of the rod.

Multirod resonators for high-power solid-state lasers with improved beam quality

TL;DR: In this article, the beam quality can be improved without reducing the output power by using several rods inside the same resonator and by a suitable choice of rod position and resonator parameters.

Beam-quality changes generated by thermally-induced spherical aberration in laser cavities

TL;DR: In this article, the intensity moment formalism was used to analyze the beam quality parameter of the emitted laser beams and a number of resonance conditions that certain beam shape parameters of any stable laser mode should fulfill are derived.

High-power solid-state lasers with unstable resonators

TL;DR: In this article, the thermal lensing properties of stable and unstable resonators are compared and rules for the design of optimized stable resonators containing a focusing rod are given for the optimization of optimized instability.

Beam divergence and refractive power of directly coated solid state lasers

TL;DR: In this article, a relation between the far field divergence angle of a laser output beam and the elements of the laser resonator matrix is derived, which yields an expression for the FAR of the output beam in terms of the pump light induced refractive power D of the rod.

TL;DR: By means of equivalence relations and adaption of the aperture size to the size of the undisturbed Gaussian beam it is possible to reduce the number of characterizing parameters to two: the adapting factor, the product.
