TLDR
Fluid dynamics is a broad field within fluid mechanics that deals with the flow of fluids such as liquids and gases under various conditions, mostly with the dynamics of flows on macroscopic scales as mentioned in this paper.

Evolution of the Thermohaline Structure of One Agulhas Ring Reconstructed from Satellite Altimetry and Argo Floats

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the evolution and the thermohaline structure of the Agulhas ring over the course of 1.5 years (May 2013-November 2014) and found that during this period the ring evolved according to two different phases: During the first one, taking place in winter, the mixing layer in the eddy deepened significantly.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transitions between turbulent states in a two-dimensional shear flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the bifurcations of large-scale jets in a turbulent shear flow driven by a Kolmogorov forcing were studied, and the mean velocity profile of the forced-dissipative system was reproduced using a truncated Euler equations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Can geostrophic adjustment of baroclinic disturbances in the tropical atmosphere explain MJO events

TL;DR: HAL as mentioned in this paper is a multi-disciplinary open access archive for the deposit and dissemination of scientific research documents, whether they are published or not, which may come from teaching and research institutions in France or abroad, or from public or private research centers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multilayer shallow-water model with stratification and shear

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a shallow water-type model with multiple inhomogeneous layers featuring variable linear velocity vertical shear and startificaion in horizontal space and time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermal versus isothermal rotating shallow water equations: comparison of dynamical processes by simulations with a novel well-balanced central-upwind scheme

TL;DR: In this paper, a well-balanced central-upwind scheme for two-dimensional rotating shallow water equations with horizontal temperature/density gradients is proposed, based on thermal rotating shallow.

A Casimir preserving scheme for long-time simulation of spherical ideal hydrodynamics

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed an efficient numerical method for long-time simulations that preserve the geometric features of the exact flow, in particular conservation of Casimirs, and showed that there is a correlation between a first integral (the ratio of total angular momentum and the square root of enstrophy) and the long time behavior: small, intermediate and large yields most likely 4, 3 or 2 coherent vortex formations.
