Policies for agricultural nitrogen management?trends, challenges and prospects for improved efficiency in Denmark

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the policies and actions taken and their ability to mitigate effects of reactive reactive nitrogen (Nr) while maintaining agricultural production is presented, showing that the average N-surplus has been reduced from approximately 170 kg N ha?1 yr?1 to below 100 kg n ha? 1 yr? 1 during the past 30 yrs, while the overall N-efficiency for the agricultural sector (crop?+?livestock farming) has increased from around 20?30% to 40?45%.

Geochemistry's vital contribution to solving water resource problems.

TL;DR: In the post-war years, hydrogeochemistry was influenced heavily by the advances in other disciplines including physical chemistry, metallurgy and oceanography, and important advances in analytical chemistry allowed multi-element and trace element applications to be made as discussed by the authors.

Groundwater monitoring in Denmark: characteristics, perspectives and comparison with other countries

TL;DR: In this paper, the strengths and weaknesses of the Danish groundwater monitoring program are assessed and compared with other national groundwater-monitoring programmes. Issues discussed include: strategic considerations for monitoring design, the link between research and monitoring, and adoption of responses to climate changes.
