GSM-based commsense system to measure and estimate environmental changes

TLDR
Commensal1 or passive radar, which uses signals of opportunity to detect targets without affecting the functionality of the parent system, is proposed.
Abstract
Classical radar systems have been designed primarily for military operations. Of late many interesting ways of using radio-frequency spectrum for radar purpose have been under research. One such concept is commensal1 or passive radar, which uses signals of opportunity to detect targets without affecting the functionality of the parent system [1]–[7].

Principal component analysis

TL;DR: Principal component analysis (PCA) as discussed by the authors is a multivariate technique that analyzes a data table in which observations are described by several inter-correlated quantitative dependent variables, and its goal is to extract the important information from the table, to represent it as a set of new orthogonal variables called principal components, and display the pattern of similarity of the observations and of the variables as points in maps.

Signal Processing for Passive Radar Using OFDM Waveforms

TL;DR: This paper derives the exact matched filter formulation for passive radar using OFDM waveforms, and shows that the current approach using Fourier analysis across block channel estimates is equivalent to the matched filter, based on a piecewise constant assumption on the Doppler-induced phase rotation in the time domain.

Passive radar using Global System for Mobile communication signal: theory, implementation and measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility of using GSM signals as a radar waveform and the potential capability to detect and track different types of ground-moving targets were investigated. But the analysis of the GSM waveform, and any significance or influence it has with respect to the passive radar design considerations are investigated in detail.
