Randomly interstratified illite-vermiculite from weathering of illite in red earth sediments in Xuancheng, southeastern China

TL;DR: In this paper, mixed-layer illite-vermiculite (I/V) clays of the Xuancheng red earth were investigated using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fast microwave synthesis of hectorite

TL;DR: Hectorite has been synthesized by aging the gel precursor by microwave-hydrothermal treatment at 393 K for 16h as mentioned in this paper. But the effect of brucite used, aging temperature and time under microwaves on the resulting hectorite was studied by XRD, N 2 adsorption, and SEM techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microwave-assisted synthesis of saponite

TL;DR: In this paper, the microwave-assisted synthesis of saponites has been successfully demonstrated by using the microwave hydrothermal method at 393 K for 6 h. Characteristics of the saponite synthesized under microwaves depended on the initial slurry pH, the presence of fluorides in the reaction medium, and the aging time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of water type and maturation time on the properties of kaolinite–saponite peloids

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of maturation time and water type on the properties of peloids were studied, including the composition of the liquid phase, thermal behavior, the amount of defects in the structure of the main minerals present in the solid phase (kaolinite and saponite) and the ultramicroscopic fabric of the material, determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis (IA).
Journal ArticleDOI

Fenton-like processes and adsorption using iron oxide-pillared clay with magnetic properties for organic compound mitigation

TL;DR: In this work, a new step was added to the classic route of iron-pillared clay obtention, resulting in a material with both magnetic and oxidative properties, FePMAG, which showed an excellent MB oxidation capacity and a good capacity for organic dye methylene blue removal.
