Hazard recognition and risk perception in construction

TLDR
In this article, the authors explore the degree to which construction superintendents are aware of hazards and how well they perceive the associated risks, 61 subjects were asked to identify the hazards in a typical construction project, to assess their risk level, and to estimate the probability and the severity of possible accidents.

Construction safety training using immersive virtual reality

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors tested the hypotheses that safety training in a virtual reality (VR) construction site would be feasible and more effective, in terms of workers' learning and recall in identifying and assessing construction safety risks, than would equivalent training using conventional methods.

Falls from Height in the Construction Industry: A Critical Review of the Scientific Literature.

TL;DR: The most common factors associated with FFH are risky activities, individual characteristics, site conditions, organizational characteristics, agents (scaffolds/ladders) and weather conditions.

A Science Mapping Approach Based Review of Construction Safety Research

TL;DR: A framework and future research directions were proposed which could serve both the academic community and practical fields in multiple themes within construction safety, including: an adaptable safety climate and safety culture model; prototypes, continuous development, and readiness of applying information technologies in safety management.

Factors affecting safety performance on construction sites

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of the historical, economical, psychological, technical, procedural, organizational, and environmental factors on the level of site safety is discussed in the United Kingdom construction industry.

Identifying Root Causes of Construction Accidents

TL;DR: In this article, an accident root causes tracing model (ARCTM) tailored to the needs of the construction industry is presented. But it does not address why the accident occurred by identifying possible root causes by complementing these techniques with theories of accident causation and theories of human error.

Safety hazard identification on construction projects

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an investigation indicating the current levels of hazard identification on three U.K. construction projects and find that only 6.7% of the method statements analyzed on these projects managed to identify all of the hazards that should have been identified, based upon current knowledge.

Systems Model of Construction Accident Causation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a new accident causation model of the factors affecting the likelihood of accidents during a construction activity, which focuses on how the characteristics of the production system generate hazardous situations and shape the work behaviors, and analyzes the conditions that trigger the release of hazards.
