Induction of stress fibres and intercellular gaps in human vascular endothelium by shock-waves.
TLDR
The degree of tissue change ranged from the induction of stress fibres and intercellular gaps to the complete detachment of endothelial cells combined with damage of the basement membrane, which might explain the enhanced effects in experimental tumour therapy that have been found by other authors when combining shock-waves with drugs.About:

Ultrasound mediated delivery of drugs and genes to solid tumors.
TL;DR: The manner by which acoustic energy deposition can be used to create changes in tissue permeability for enhancing the delivery of conventional agents, as well as for deploying and activating drugs and genes via specially tailored vehicles and formulations is reviewed.

TL;DR: It is suggested that extracorporeal cardiac SW therapy is an effective and noninvasive therapeutic strategy for ischemic heart disease.

An overview of shock wave therapy in musculoskeletal disorders.
TL;DR: Findings support the clinical observation that the effect of shock wave therapy appears to be dose-dependent and symptom improvement with time, and support the novel therapeutic modality without the need of surgery and surgical risks as well as surgical pain.

Extracorporeal shock wave therapy in inflammatory diseases: molecular mechanism that triggers anti-inflammatory action.
Sofia Mariotto,Alessandra Carcereri de Prati,Elisabetta Cavalieri,Ernesto Amelio,Ernst Marlinghaus,Hisanori Suzuki +5 more
TL;DR: Data on the rapid enhancement of endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) activity in ESW-treated cells suggest that increased NO levels and the subsequent suppression of NF-kappaB activation may account, at least in part, for the clinically beneficial action on tissue inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shock wave therapy (Orthotripsy) in musculoskeletal disorders.
TL;DR: The authors have reviewed the available literature to assess the biologic effects of shock waves on human musculoskeletal tissues, the credibility of published studies on therapeutic applications, and the potential for more widespread application of this modality to various skeletal and near-skeletal disorders.

Induction of human vascular endothelial stress fibres by fluid shear stress
TL;DR: It is reported that endothelial stress fibres can be induced by a 3-h exposure of confluent monolayer cultures of human vascular endothelium to a fluid shear stress of 2 dynes cm−2, approximately the stress occurring in human arteries in vivo.

Renal morphology and function immediately after extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy.
TL;DR: The acute effects of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy on morphology and function of the kidney were evaluated by excretory urography, quantitative radionuclide renography (QRR), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 33 consecutive patients and treated kidneys were normal by all three imaging methods.

Non-invasive treatment of long-bone pseudarthrosis by shock waves (ESWL)
R. Schleberger,T Senge +1 more
TL;DR: Non-invasive treatment of non-union of diaphyses by application of the shock waves known from lithotripsy has proved successful in three out of four cases and transformed into bony union in all cases but one by dynamic fixation less rigid than a plaster cast.

Studies on conformation of F-actin in muscle fibers in the relaxed state, rigor, and during contraction using fluorescent phalloidin.
TL;DR: It is concluded from these observations that conformational changes in F-actin are involved in the process of active tension development.
