Insulin resistance and early virological response in chronic HCV infection

TLDR
Insulin resistance is a common finding in CHC, it is associated with increase liver steatosis, however it has no impact on EVR to combined interferon ribavirin therapy, viral load or necroinflammation.

Impact of direct-acting antiviral regimens on hepatic and extrahepatic manifestations of hepatitis C virus infection

TL;DR: Early therapeutic approach with DAAs is recommended as it cure many of the EHMs that are still in a reversible stage and can prevent others that can develop due to delayed treatment.

Evaluating the Effects of Anti-Viral Therapy on Insulin Resistance and Diabetic Status in Chronic Hepatitis C patients

TL;DR: Evaluation of direct acting anti-viral therapy effect on insulin resistance (IR) and glycemic status in CHC patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 3 months after the end of treatment found a significant improvement in FBS as well as IR was declared after successful HCV treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study of prevalence and effects of insulin resistance in patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 4.

TL;DR: It is confirmed that insulin resistance affects treatment outcome, and thus HOMA-IR testing before initiation of therapy may be a cost-effective tool.

TL;DR: The correlation of the model's estimates with patient data accords with the hypothesis that basal glucose and insulin interactions are largely determined by a simple feed back loop.

Prevalence of insulin resistance in metabolic disorders: the Bruneck Study.

TL;DR: Results from a population-based study documented that in hypertriglyceridemia and a low HDL cholesterol state, insulin resistance is as common as in NIDDM, whereas it is less frequent in hypercholesterolemia, hyperuricemia, and hypertension.

Insulin resistance: A metabolic pathway to chronic liver disease†

TL;DR: The ability of insulin‐sensitizing, pharmacological agents to treat NAFLD by reducing IR in the liver (metformin) and in the periphery (thiazolidinediones) are discussed.
