Journal ArticleDOI
Interfaces and thin films as seen by bound electromagnetic waves
TL;DR: An emphasis is put on the combination set-up of surface plasmon optics with electrochemical techniques, allowing for the on-line characterization of various surface functionalization strategies, e.g. for (bio-) sensor purposes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dielectric laser accelerators
R. Joel England,R. J. Noble,Karl Bane,David H. Dowell,C. Ng,James E. Spencer,Sami Tantawi,Ziran Wu,Robert L. Byer,E. A. Peralta,K. Soong,Chia-Ming Chang,Behnam Montazeri,Stephen J. Wolf,Benjamin M. Cowan,Jay W. Dawson,Wei Gai,Peter Hommelhoff,Yen-Chieh Huang,Chunguang Jing,C. McGuinness,Robert B. Palmer,Brian Naranjo,James Rosenzweig,Gil Travish,Amit Mizrahi,Levi Schächter,C.M.S. Sears,Gregory R. Werner,R. B. Yoder +29 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the dielectric laser acceleration (DLA) scheme operating at typical laser pulse lengths of 1 to 1 ps, where the laser damage fluences correspond to peak surface electric fields in the Ω{GV}/\mathrm{m} regime.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photonic crystal fibres for chemical sensing and photochemistry
Ana M. Cubillas,Ana M. Cubillas,Sarah Unterkofler,Tijmen G. Euser,Bastian J. M. Etzold,Anita C. Jones,Peter J. Sadler,Peter Wasserscheid,Philip St. J. Russell,Philip St. J. Russell +9 more
TL;DR: This review introduces photonic crystal fibre as a novel optofluidic microdevice that can be employed as both a versatile chemical sensor and a highly efficient microreactor and demonstrates that it provides an excellent platform in which light and chemical samples can strongly interact for quantitative spectroscopic analysis or photoactivation purposes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optically pumped planar waveguide lasers, Part I: Fundamentals and fabrication techniques
TL;DR: In this article, the state-of-the-art in terms of fabrication tools used for producing waveguide lasers is reviewed from the aspects of the processes and the materials involved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Integrated lithium niobate photonics
TL;DR: In this paper, the basic structures including waveguides, cavities, periodically poled LiNbO3, and couplers, along with their fabrication methods and optical properties are reviewed.
