Pinning and Depinning Dynamics of an Evaporating Sessile Droplet Containing Mono- and Bidispersed Colloidal Particles on a Nonheated/Heated Hydrophobic Substrate.

TL;DR: In this article , the coupled effects of substrate heating, colloidal dispersion, and particle size variation on the contact line (CL) pinning-depinning dynamics of evaporating droplets containing polystyrene colloidal particles on poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) substrates were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaporation of vertical and pendant ethanol droplets and internal Marangoni convections

TL;DR: In this article , the authors numerically investigated the evaporation of vertical and pendant ethanol droplets in an open space and developed a novel comprehensive model for simulation, which incorporated vapor diffusion, thermal conduction, evaporative cooling, natural convection, and Marangoni stress, showing excellent accuracy in three-dimensional scenes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Three-Dimensional Deposits from Drying Particle-Laden Drops.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors demonstrate the occurrence of evaporation-mediated particle deposits that span three dimensions (x, y, and z) and the extent of the span in this 3rd dimension (z) is comparable to the span of 2D and hence is much larger than the finite thickness (in z) of the 2D deposits, where the evaporating drop is positioned.

Capillary flow as the cause of ring stains from dried liquid drops

TL;DR: In this article, the authors ascribe the characteristic pattern of the deposition to a form of capillary flow in which pinning of the contact line of the drying drop ensures that liquid evaporating from the edge is replenished by liquid from the interior.
Journal ArticleDOI

Contact line deposits in an evaporating drop

TL;DR: A theory is described that predicts the flow velocity, the rate of growth of the ring, and the distribution of solute within the drop that is driven by the loss of solvent by evaporation and the geometrical constraint that the drop maintain an equilibrium droplet shape with a fixed boundary.

PIVlab – Towards User-friendly, Affordable and Accurate Digital Particle Image Velocimetry in MATLAB

TL;DR: The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inkjet Printing for Materials and Devices

TL;DR: Inkjet printing has been used as a free-form fabrication method for building three-dimensional parts and is being explored as a way of printing electrical and optical devices, especially where these involve organic components.
Journal ArticleDOI

Marangoni effect reverses coffee-ring depositions.

TL;DR: It is shown here both experimentally and theoretically that the formation of "coffee-ring" deposits observed at the edge of drying water droplets requires not only a pinned contact line but also suppression of Marangoni flow.
