In this paper, the euclidean norm is unitarily invariant and a vector x is determined such that x is parallel b-Ax parallel = \parallel c - QAx parallel where c denotes the first n components of c.
Abstract
Let A be a given m×n real matrix with m≧n and of rank n and b a given vector. We wish to determine a vector x such that $$\parallel b - A\hat x\parallel = \min .$$ where ∥ … ∥ indicates the euclidean norm. Since the euclidean norm is unitarily invariant $$\parallel b - Ax\parallel = \parallel c - QAx\parallel $$ where c=Q b and Q T Q = I. We choose Q so that $$QA = R = {\left( {_{\dddot 0}^{\tilde R}} \right)_{\} (m - n) \times n}}$$ (1) and R is an upper triangular matrix. Clearly, $$\hat x = {\tilde R^{ - 1}}\tilde c$$ where c denotes the first n components of c.

TL;DR: In this article, a quantitative description of a complex process can often not be derived from investigations into isolated subsystems by in vitro experiments, and observations of the complete process in vivo are the only source of information.

Determination of the Distribution of Conduction Velocities in Human Nerve Trunks

TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of conduction velocities within the alpha fiber group of an in situ human peripheral nerve trunk was determined based on the analysis of the shape of compound nerve action potentials recorded from surface electrodes.

Bidirectional branch and bound for controlled variable selection Part I. Principles and minimum singular value criterion

TL;DR: A new and efficient branch and bound (BAB) method for selection of CVs using the MSV rule is proposed by posing the problem as a subset selection problem and a novel bidirectional branching strategy to dynamically branch solution trees for subset selection problems is proposed.

Some Algorithms for Linear Spline and Piecewise Multiple Linear Regression

TL;DR: A plotting procedure that shows the existence and location of changes in linear regression models is developed as an adjunct to one of the algorithms developing some efficient algorithms for linear spline and piecewise multiple linear regression.

Unitary Triangularization of a Nonsymmetric Matrix

TL;DR: This note points out that the same result can be obtained with fewer arithmetic operations, and, in particular, for inverting a square matrix of order N, at most 2(N-1) square roots are required.
