Journal ArticleDOI

The role of polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish

TL;DR: In this article, the physical properties of polyunsaturated and saturated fatty acids are compared in relation to melting points and fluidity, and the role of poly-unsaturated fatty acids on membrane fluidity and membrane bound enzyme activity is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The rapid analysis of neutral and polar marine lipids using double-development HPTLC and scanning densitometry

TL;DR: The high-performance thin-layer chromatography method can be applied to lipids extracted from marine organisms including the complex polar lipids derived from phytoplankton and fish neural tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Effect of Dietary Lipid on Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Metabolism in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Undergoing Parr-Smolt Transformation

TL;DR: New information is provided on the changes in lipid metabolism which accompany parr-smolt transformation and it is suggested that diets which have a fatty acid composition more similar to that in aquatic invertebrates may be beneficial in effecting successful seawater adaptation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of fatty acid composition in some tissues of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) living in seawater and freshwater

TL;DR: The salinity significantly affected the n-3/n-6 ratio in the adipose and liver tissues, it did not have any significant effect in the muscle and gonads, and the EPA/DHA ratio was found to be significantly affected by the salinity in all the tissues examined.

A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.
Journal ArticleDOI

Elongation and desaturation of dietary fatty acids in turbotScophthalmus maximus L., and rainbow trout,Salmo gairdnerii rich

TL;DR: Turbot and rainbow trout, which had previously received diets free of fat, were fed fatty acids and the major product of the limited modification found in turbot was the dietary acid elongated by 2 carbon atoms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Furanoid fatty acids from fish lipids.

TL;DR: The structures of furan fatty acids were concluded from oxidative degradations, from mass spectrometry of methyl esters of the novel acids and fatty acids derived from them by opening the ring, and from nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, and Raman spectra.
Journal ArticleDOI

Positional and species analysis of membrane phospholipids extracted from goldfish adapted to different environmental temperatures.

TL;DR: Present results show temperature adaptation to be highly complex, involving both quantitative and qualitative changes in different phospholipids, with possible physiological significance of changes in cholesterol-phospholipid interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Separation and analysis of molecular species of mycolic acids in Nocardia and related taxa by gas chromatography mass spectrometry.

TL;DR: The results indicate that the structural determination of mycolic acids by gas chromatography mass spectrometry can be one of the most useful criteria for the chemotaxonomy of Nocardia and related bacteria.
