TLDR
Results indicate that lutein prevented the upregulation of VEGF and downregulation of SOD2 in retina of diabetic rats and also prevented abnormalities in ganglion cell, inner and outer nuclear layer in diabetic retina.

Chitosan-oleic acid-sodium alginate a hybrid nanocarrier as an efficient delivery system for enhancement of lutein stability and bioavailability

TL;DR: Higher solubility and bioavailability of lutein from LNCs are demonstrated and hence could be an efficient therapeutic tool to conquer macular degeneration and retinopathy.

Improved stability and controlled release of lutein-loaded micelles based on glycosylated casein via Maillard reaction

TL;DR: In this paper, Lutein was encapsulated in glycosylated micelles and the controlled delivery property was investigated, and the cumulative release rate showed that lutein could be bound with glycolylated casein and uniformly scattered in simulated gastric fluid.
Journal ArticleDOI

A critical review on anti-angiogenic property of phytochemicals.

TL;DR: Major emphasis is given to the molecular mechanism behind anti-angiogenic effect of natural compounds from dietary sources which provided avenues in improving the angiogenesis based therapy.

The Role of HIF1α-PFKFB3 pathway in Diabetic Retinopathy.

TL;DR: In this paper, a metabolic point-of-intervention based on hypoxia-inducible factor 1α-PFKFB3 targeting was proposed for diabetic retinopathy.

The biology of VEGF and its receptors.

TL;DR: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of physiological angiogenesis during embryogenesis, skeletal growth and reproductive functions and is implicated in pathologicalAngiogenesis associated with tumors, intraocular neovascular disorders and other conditions.

AIN-93 Purified Diets for Laboratory Rodents: Final Report of the American Institute of Nutrition Ad Hoc Writing Committee on the Reformulation of the AIN-76A Rodent Diet

TL;DR: Two new diets may prove to be a better choice than AIN-76A for long-term as well as short-term studies with laboratory rodents because of a better balance of essential nutrients.

Determination of carbonyl content in oxidatively modified proteins.

TL;DR: This chapter discusses methods to determine carbonyl content in oxidatively modified proteins and quantitated protein-bound pyruvoyl groups through formation of a Schiff base with p-aminobenzoic acid followed by reduction with cyanoborohydride.
Journal ArticleDOI

Protein carbonyl groups as biomarkers of oxidative stress.

TL;DR: The usage of protein CO groups as biomarkers of oxidative stress has some advantages in comparison with the measurement of other oxidation products because of the relative early formation and the relative stability of carbonylated proteins.
