TLDR
In this paper, it was shown that the modally graded bedding, which is an important feature of the lower layered gabbros, may have similarly originated as sills.

Overview of the genesis and emplacement of Mesozoic ophiolites in the Eastern Mediterranean Tethyan region

TL;DR: The Eastern Mediterranean region exhibits a fascinating diversity of ophiolites and related oceanic magmatic units of mainly Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous age as discussed by the authors, and the widespread occurrence of andesitic extrusives, chemically depleted basalts and highly magnesian lavas (boninites), favour formation of most of the large, relatively intact ophiolaites in the Eastern Mediterranean regions above subduction zones rather than at mid-ocean ridges (MORs).
Journal ArticleDOI

Birth, death, and resurrection: The life cycle of suprasubduction zone ophiolites

TL;DR: A consistent sequence of events during their formation and evolution that suggests that they form in response to processes that are common to all such ophiolites has been found in this article.

Geochemistry of gabbro sills in the crust-mantle transition zone of the Oman ophiolite: implications for the origin of the oceanic lower crust

TL;DR: Gabbroic sills intruding dunite in the crust-mantle transition zone (MTZ) of the Oman ophiolite have textures and compositions very similar to those in modally layered gabbros that form the lower part of the gabbro section in the oophiolite as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Three‐dimensional seismic structure and physical properties of the crust and shallow mantle beneath the East Pacific Rise at 9°30'N

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors estimate the thermal structure and melt distribution of the lower crust in this region and allow them to compare it to shallow crustal and mantle structure, which is not compatible with models that require a large, segment-scale redistribution of melt within the crust.

Mid-ocean ridge magma chambers

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the composition of the melt lens is mainly moderately fractionated ferrobasalt, which is consistent with a model that effectively separates the processes of magma mixing and fractionation into different parts of a composite magma chamber.

Mid-ocean ridge magna chambers

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the composition of the melt lens is mainly moderately fractionated ferrobasalt with isolated pockets of magma in the transition zone of the East Pacific Rise (EPR).

Samail Ophiolite plutonic suite: Field relations, phase variation, cryptic variation and layering, and a model of a spreading ridge magma chamber

TL;DR: In this article, an intact plutonic sequence within the Samail ophiolite in the Ibra area, southeastern Oman Mountains, reveals stratigraphic, structural, and petrologic details of oceanic layer 3.
