Measurement of the bulk viscosity of liquid by Brillouin scattering
TLDR
The results show that the bulk viscosity of water can be determined directly from Brillouin-scattering measurements, which has a high signal-to-noise ratio and high accuracy.Abstract:
The aim is to develop a rapid and direct method for measuring the bulk viscosity of a liquid as a function of temperature. Brillouin scattering of a laser beam in fresh water and salt water at different temperatures has been studied. The results show that there exists a close temperature-dependent relationship among the Brillouin frequency shift, the Brillouin linewidth, and the bulk viscosity of water. Thus the bulk viscosity of water can be determined directly from Brillouin-scattering measurements. The method has a high signal-to-noise ratio and high accuracy.read more

TL;DR: In this article, an inequality on the bulk viscosity of strongly coupled gauge theory plasmas was proposed for a dual supergravity description, and it was shown that the bulk volume remains finite at a critical point with a divergent specific heat.

Temperature dependence of bulk viscosity in water using acoustic spectroscopy
TL;DR: In this article, the bulk viscosity of millipore water over a temperature range of 7 to 50 degrees Celsius was measured and the measured attenuation spectra were consistent with the theoretical predictions, while the bulk viscosity of water was found to be approximately three times larger than its shear counterpart.

Thermal Relaxation and Brillouin Scattering in Liquids.
TL;DR: The data for carbon tetrachloride are shown to be inconsistent with the single relaxation time model for thermal relaxation, and formulas for the spectral distribution of the scattered light, for the ratio of the intensities of the central to the Brillouin components and for the phonon velocity are applied.
