Transient optically induced non-centrosymmetry in a solution of octupolar molecules

TL;DR: In this paper, the octupolar symmetry of the molecular species and the orienting field tensor is verified by polarization analysis of the induced second-harmonic susceptibility components, and a 510×10−30 esu secondharmonic hyperpolarizability at 1064 nm fundamental wavelength with 13 D transition dipole moment between excited states is inferred.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accurate determination and modeling of the dispersion of the first hyperpolarizability of an efficient zwitterionic nonlinear optical chromophore by tunable wavelength hyper-Rayleigh scattering

TL;DR: The wavelength-dependent molecular first hyperpolarizability β of the zwitterionic nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophore picolinium quinodimethane (PQDM) is determined by hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) and used to test and improve theoretical β dispersion models.
Journal ArticleDOI

New advances in molecular engineering for quadratic nonlinear optics

TL;DR: In this article, the nonlinearity/transparency trade-off of polysilane and polyphenyl-containing ligands was investigated in the context of intramolecular charge transfer with limited conjugation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improved transparency–nonlinearity trade-off with boroxine-based octupolar molecules

TL;DR: A series of octupolar molecules derived from the boroxine framework were designed and their optical nonlinearities were investigated by performing harmonic light scattering experiments in solution; the molecules were found to combine excellent transparency in the near UV-visible region (λmax======≤ 280 nm) and significant first-order hyperpolarisabilities (up to β(0)======= 56 × 10−30 esu) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Real-Time Monitoring of the Nucleation and Growth of ZnO Nanoparticles Using an Optical Hyper-Rayleigh Scattering Method

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured an increase in the particle hyperpolarizability, βZnO, with increasing particle size, which revealed regions of prevalent nucleation, growth, and ripening.

Interactions between light waves in a nonlinear dielectric

TL;DR: In this paper, the induced nonlinear electric dipole and higher moments in an atomic system, irradiated simultaneously by two or three light waves, are calculated by quantum-mechanical perturbation theory.

- 01 Jan 1964 -
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that with a beam intensity of 0.1 MW/sq cm, the vibrational Raman spectrum of molecules or crystals may be obtained by the three-photon process.
