Abstract
The future of society will be shaped by the young and talented minds going through colleges and universities today. During the last 14 years roughly 130 undergraduate students from several institutions have participated in the research experiences for undergraduates (REU) program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). A large fraction of our students have been able to prepare a paper for submission to a conference, have the paper accepted, and then attend the conference to present the paper. Several participants have even accomplished enough substantial research to result in journal publications. Many past participants are now pursuing graduate studies at various institutions. In this paper, the REU model is described in detail; some examples of student success are discussed; and some observations are summarized.

System for selectively communicating promotional information to a person

TL;DR: In this article, a system for selectively communicating promotional information to a person, including a sensing system, a storage device, a controller, and a projection device, is described, where the controller uses the measured detectable feature associated with the person for selecting one of the stored promotional segments and causing the projection device to project to the person at a predetermined location the selected promotional segment.

A Sustainable Model for Integrating Current Topics in Machine Learning Research Into the Undergraduate Curriculum

TL;DR: The model has been self-sustaining as evidenced by its continued operation during the years after the NSF grant's expiration, and is transferable to other institutions due to its use of modular and faculty-specific technical content.
