Monoclonal-antibodies as probes for defining cellular subsets in the bone-marrow, thymus, bursa of fabricius, and spleen of the chicken

TLDR
Using immunohistochemistry, the distribution and characteristics of cells detected by the newly developed monoclonals HIS-CI (B lymphocytes), HIS-C7 (leucocytes) and CVI-ChIgM-59.5 (IgA) are described in bone marrow, thymus, bursa of Fabricius, and spleen of chickens of different ages.

Intraaortic hemopoietic cells are derived from endothelial cells during ontogeny

TL;DR: It is shown that, prior to the onset of hemopoiesis, the aortic endothelium uniformly expresses the endothelia-specific membrane receptor VEGF-R2, which can be determined by detecting the common leukocyte antigen CD45.

Characterization of cloned chicken anemia virus DNA that contains all elements for the infectious replication cycle.

TL;DR: The genome of one of the three known single-stranded circular DNA viruses has been completely analyzed for the first time, and it is shown that the CAV genome probably contains only one promoter region and only one poly(A) addition signal.
Journal ArticleDOI

A single chicken anemia virus protein induces apoptosis.

TL;DR: In vitro, expression of a C-terminally truncated VP3 induced much less pronounced apoptosis in the chicken lymphoblastoid T cells and myeloid cells, but not in chicken embryo fibroblasts, which are not susceptible to CAV.

Immunomodulation by probiotic lactobacilli in layer and meat-type chickens

TL;DR: In meat-type strain chickens the lactobacilli had a stimulating effect when the chickens were young and the dose was relatively high, whereas in layer-type chickens a lower effective dose and discontinuous administration was also effective and modulating effects on the immune system of layer- and meat- type chickens.

The Avian Spleen: A Neglected Organ

TL;DR: The functions of the little-studied avian spleen are reviewed and compared with those of its better known mammalian counterpart, which is generally larger in proportion to body size than in birds.

Continuous cultures of fused cells secreting antibody of predefined specificity

TL;DR: The derivation of a number of tissue culture cell lines which secrete anti-sheep red blood cell (SRBC) antibodies is described here, made by fusion of a mouse myeloma and mouse spleen cells from an immunised donor.

Monoclonal antibodies against chicken lymphocyte surface antigens

- 01 Jan 1983 -
TL;DR: In this paper, four monoclonal antibodies reacting with different cell surface proteins of chicken lymphocytes were characterized, as follows: one antibody (IgM X.14) reacted only with cortical thymocytes, and precipitated material of apparent molecular weight (AMW) 65,000 (65 kD), 125 kD, and 180 kD from these cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

The monoclonal antibody CVI-ChNL-68.1 recognizes cells of the monocyte-macrophage lineage in chickens.

TL;DR: Results show that CVI-ChNL-68.1 reacts with monocytes, macrophages, and interdigitating cells, and possible relationships between the various non-lymphoid cells are discussed.
