Heart rate variability: Origins, methods, and interpretive caveats

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the physiological origins and mechanisms of heart rate variability, considered quantitative approaches to measurement, and highlighted important caveats in the interpretation of heart rates variability, and outlined guidelines for research in this area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of baroreceptor reflex sensitivity by means of spectral analysis.

TL;DR: A method of determining baroreceptor reflex sensitivity is proposed that is based on spectral analysis of systolic pressure values and RR interval times, namely, the modulus (or gain) in the mid frequency band between these two signals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Important influence of respiration on human R-R interval power spectra is largely ignored

TL;DR: The major implications of these analyses are that breathing parameters strongly influence low-frequency as well as respiratory frequency R-R interval power spectra and that this influence is largely ignored in published research.

The measurement of drivers' mental workload

Dick de Waard
TL;DR: In this article, mental workload is defined as a relative concept; it is the ratio of demand to allocated resources, i.e. the external demand, the goals that have to be reached, and (work)load.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effects of mobile telephoning on driving performance

TL;DR: A significant effect of telephoning while driving as opposed to normal driving is shown on the effort subjectively measured by an effort scale and objectively measured by heartrate indices and on some of the measured parameters of driving performance.

Influence of cardiac neural inputs on rhythmic variations of heart period in the cat.

TL;DR: It is concluded that P3 is related to sinus arrhythmia and that P1 and P2 may be related to spontaneous rhythms that are an intrinsic feature of the dynamic regulation of heart period by the vagus system.
